You could buy AMEX giftcards for a cash rebate, nail the spend on the card used, and get the vendor to do a split transaction. Oops, The Spanish Inquisition might come after you with the dish rack in that case!

Don't forget the trusty SPG Amex transfers at a 1:1.25 ratio for most airlines- so equaling the current BA offer- not to mention the added flexibility of SPG points vs. BA points- assuming you have no elite status or minimum spend requirements to match.
