"beat the system" tip 3: things to check when checking luggage at the curb
(you can bypass the slow check-in lines at lobby-check-in)
- when returning a rental car consider going to the curbside check-in first to check your bags
- be sure your flight has not been cancelled
- be sure your flight has not been substantially delayed (you might catch an alternative earlier flight)
- be sure the checker uses the correct destination tag with the correct flight number (or numbers)
This tips are even more important if you use a hotel-side check-in: SAS-Hotels, Swissotels for SR, Kempinski for LH, etc.
(from the airline passengers guerilla handbook).

And here's are two I always us:
*Confirm reservations 24-48 hours before flight going and returning.
*Checking with my carrier about flight status BEFORE I leave for the airport.
These two are probably obvious, but it's in
CATMAN's MEOWY rules of Travel! CATMAN

Good tips guys. I have another one that has saved me more than once when flights have been canceled or delayed within the U.S.
1. Unfortunately you need a pager with a major paging company domestically in the U.S. Participating companies are:
* MetroCall
* MobileComm
* PageMart
* PageMart II
* SkyTel
* SkyTel 2-Way
* PageNet
2. Go to the Travelocity website (www.travelocity.com) and specifically the page
http://www2.travelocity.com/fpage/index.html
3. Follow the instructions.
You can receive pages 1, 2 or 3 hours before departure/arrival of a flight either confirminng or on an exception basis, a flight time & gate (i.e. flight no., time & gate confirmation or delay/cancelation either on an exception basis - if the flight has a problem - or confirm anyway).
This service is free, you can have up to three notifications at one time, but you are limited to flights within 72 hours from creating the notification.
I had a flight canceled by AA (due to leave at 6:30 a.m. from SJC and was paged at 5:30 a.m.). Saved me an unnecessary trip to the airport, called AA and rescheduled for 10:00 a.m., got a few more hours sleep.
Enjoy,
