I know how bunches of you love to worry yourself about the details, from the moment you order, untill you have the award in your hand.

What happens if they dusted off the 100 Raffles only certs from the redemption closet, and your limited to the 5 or so Raffles hotels in Asia.
you could get an ovation award with RAFFLES ONLY stamped all over the front of it. I doubt this is the case, but someone called for wild speculation, and I know how bunches of you love to worry yourself about the details, from the moment you order, untill you have the award in your hand. so your welcome (evil laugh)...muuuhahahaha |

I thought I'd start a new thread where we could discuss the different ways to use the large amount of Cap1 points many of us 'hopefully' will be receiving. Many of us are Cap1 novices and would appreciate some guidance.
Maybe someone could post an award chart or other pertinent info. Cap1 experts, please chime in. Hopefully this will keep the BIG thread from getting a lot bigger. :) |

I think they were planning to use the travel credit of 1c/mile which you can receive within 90 days of the charge posting. If they didn't charge anything else to the card, they would have a credit balance after the travel credit is posted and could receive a check for that.

But as I posted earlier, a week -10 days in the Phnom Penh and/or Siem Reap Raffles is not a bad thing.

To me the best use for Cap One points depends on how flush you are with regular points.
For me, the best use is at places where there are no chain hotels in which I have points (i.e., no Starwood, Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt). For example, I'll be using mine in June in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Beaune, France. both those stays will cost me over $1,000 prior to using Cap One point. After redeeming points, well, let's just say "sweeet". |
I just got an email from C1 and my Hyatt GC are on back order. I placed my order last week.
Also, don't forget their shopping portal. I ordered a pair of sneakers and got 14/1 miles. Then I had lunch at Applebees and got 7/1 miles. |
To fill out the roster of out-of-stock hotel certificates, I received an email notification today that the $900 Ritz-Carlton certificates I ordered on April 18 are backordered and are anticipated to be sent on/before May 13. (No backorder notification yet regarding the Hyatt certs my better half ordered on April 14, nor the "Raffles" ones ordered on the 25th).

If it doesn't work for the Fairmont I'll store the certs (no expiration) and start saving cash and miles for a trip to the Maldives Raffles, if it ever opens. |
I am trying to assess the comparative value of the different hotel certificates. It appears that some certificates can only be applied to an individual night (Raffles) versus an overall bill. As a Hyatt Diamond member and Fairmont/Raffles platinum member it would seem logical to get the very cheapest overnight rate and simply take advantage of one's premier benefits. Has there been any problem with the recognition of benefits with these certificates? For those that have them do there appear to be any limitations to using them like the old Costco Hyatt certificates? Thanks.
