To answer AlohaDaveKennedy's question above - I changed my address to Canada after the "stars" promotion started. (I used my wife's address - she lives there.)
As far as the other posts about the bad ratios - last time I was in Vegas it was hot and a guy was sitting on the street with a cooler full of ice and bottles of water, selling them for $1. Suppose he chose to sell the same bottles for $5. A rip-off? Nope, nobody is forced to buy it. Points.com provides a service. Actually, I think the way they handle it is by finding a conversion path. For example, if you want to transfer Amex MR points to United, you have to transfer Amex to SPG at 3:1 and then transfer SPG to United at 2:1. (Maybe there's a more efficient path, but the example is still valid.) So points. com would give 6:1. I don't think points.com skims anything off the top. As noted, I found them very useful. And if I had, say, 59,988 miles and needed 60K for an award, I might find them useful also. |

These days I actually judge companies and my experience as a customer not on how well things went in my purchasing experience, but how they handle things if something goes wrong.
Their CS hasnt seemed to have improved over the years. The lurker here disappeared quickly. Chat people at front office are not able call people at back office. Basically they cant do anything, not even keep their promises of feedback, and have no solutions to any problems other than wait (the general observation, and likely there are a few exceptions).

When I do a "swap" in points.com, Can I actually swap the points to a reward membership program person under another person's name?
Like I registered two programs in points.com. One is Aeroplan, with registered name Bill, and Asiamiles with registered name Colin. Can I do a swap between these two accounts? Thanks!:) |

Anyone knowing this? My sister changed her last name after getting married and has one FFP in old name and one in new. Can she enter both under new name on points.com, or maybe transfer eligibility will be program specific in this aspect? That said, I consider attaching the following to an email to their CS department if they have email and even read it, but maybe better, I would find their physical address of the company and go all out: Mail them a copy of her marriage cert and all info and explain it in detail. If they cant deal with this rather simple and common issue, then you have your answer. good luck! :)MM |

Wont go through that hassle for these amounts, only looking for real life experiences. Is there a name requirement or not in place?
I have no real time experience with the name thing at points.com but I bet if something went wrong they would certainly use THAT as the fall back reason to bail out on you and then you get nothing. anyone else? |

Points.com is just awful. A total ripoff and total non customer service. But, if you're desperate for a few miles for an award... However, I don't even want to think about that. I use/buy miles through e-rewards.com or make a purhcase through an airline[portal or something before I want to do that. "Ripoff.com" would be a more suitable name. But, hey, company is still around and, I suppose, making dough.

You know that Points.com also handles the back end for most of the airline and hotel promotions where they are selling miles for their members? I really haven't had any problems with these transactions.
So people who do this seem to automatically tout that Points.com must be good. Yes they do that for the airlines. It's the only thing that seems to generally work. BUT you are aware the fees are disgusting and also if you ever ever experience ANY glitch with it--a mistake between accounts, an error in timing, etc, I can just say good luck to you.anyone for trying to get that addressed. Fact is the company is horrid. But like I said, it does work for me for that little US-Asia Miles-US thing. As long as that works, I am ok. Otherwise I really have little to no use for them and wouldn't trust them for anything over say 1000 miles I can afford to lose when something goes wrong. Some here know that nearly 10 years ago I was involved in a huge battle that lasted many months with at least 100 FTers surrounding this company. We beat at the dead horse for months and eventually everyone got their miles but man what a mess! I am talking about at least 10k miles across 100 people, which at the time was a lot. Had we not pushed for it all, they'd have walked with over 100,000 miles WE already 'paid' for! If that's how they make their money, that explains a lot. |
Anyone have any experience with Points.com?
Hello everyone,
I have some Aeroplan points that are just sitting and collecting dust. I was hoping to consolidate them into one program, but can't find any good solutions. The closest thing that I found was Points.com but it seems too good to be true and loaded with fees. Has anyone had any experience with them? Sorry if this is already being discussed somewhere else! |

Use the Exchange option. It has no fees and you can usually exchange Aeroplan miles in the US at only a 16% loss in miles. For example 1000 Aeroplan miles can be exchanged for 840 US miles.

That's not too bad at all. Unfortunately, you can't send to BA it looks like. It looks like the only option is going to do exchange to a program that can exchange to another program... great.
