The generally agreed upon definition of spam (as it relates to email and not canned meat) is unsolicited commercial email. If you sign-up for a service like MyPoints where they clearly indicate they are going to send you commercial email in exchange for the rewards you receive, then it is by definition not unsolicited. I think it's also important to note that many MyPoints emails award you points for reading on them and clicking a link (5 MyPoints/email is the standard), and those points can be converted to UA miles (though you need to earn at least 5,100 of them to do so, so admittedly it's not fast earning unless you make a lot of purchases, which can earn you points more quickly).
