Trying to understand points.com
Hi guys, trying to learn something here. I see on Points.com that people are trading mileage on different airlines, how can it be done without the airline approving it? Doesn't the airline need to post the mileage to your account?
When I need more miles in my account for an up coming trip, I would normally need to pay 1 cent per mile plus $30 fee to the airline to transfer miles from a family member's account to my account. Is there any way to get around this without paying the airline their fee? Just trying to understand how this works since I am a pretty new member to the mileage game. Thanks

No fee transfers
Flexperks and Hawaiian Air have no transfer fees. Flexperks is US Bank, an uncoinworthy institution, while Hawaiian Air is Bank of America or Bank or Hawaii, two coinworthy institutions.

So if I want to transfer miles from my brother's American or United airline account into my American or United account, I would have to pay American or United airline their 1-1.5 cents per mile plus $30 fee? I assume there is no way to get around this? Thanks

Note that it is often cheaper to buy miles from AA then to transfer them. AA has the following promo for buying right now:

There's no way to get around the fees. Occasionally, the airlines will have promos where they offer either discounted fees or bonus miles for buying or transferring.
Note that it is often cheaper to buy miles from AA then to transfer them. AA has the following promo for buying right now:

I am just trying to understand how they are doing it because I have learned a lot of information on this forum.
