A "Rental Run" is it worth it?
Hi All,
I am a few hundred miles short of an award on a major European airline, so I thought I can do a rental run with Hertz. They offer 1100 miles per rental for non-corporate rates. Since weekend rates are pretty cheap, it's like buying 1100 miles for $35. I did look at buying miles from the airline and it $52 for 1000 miles.
I also think weekend rates are pretty cheap and HLE, I can get a weekend rate for under $30 (although not this weekend, it being Christmas weekend).
The above prices are all inclusive.
Thoughts, suggestions.

In general, 1100 RDM for $35 is nothing to get excited about, but if that's the cheapest and/or easiest way to put your account over the threshhold you need, then sure, why not.
Only questions I'd ask are, how quickly do Hertz miles usually post to this airline, and have you checked award availability once you get the miles? It would suck to wait 8 weeks for the miles to show up, or to get the miles and then discover there aren't any award seats when you need them.
If you post the airline name, others here may suggest if there are quicker or cheaper ways to get the miles.

Is this for BA?
There are a couple of hotel partnerships available where you can convert points from those loyalty programs into BA miles {Marriott and SPG come to mind}
If you do not belong to either one of those, join one. Get a branded credit card for the bonus, then transfer the points into BA.
Option 2: Does this airline have a shopping portal?

Yes, it can be if you could actually use a rental car and it is truly a good promotion.
