Been wondering what people are doing, keeping or closing.

I'd be careful, companion ticket is for miles redemption tickets on BA (non codeshare) flights only.

I was going to call up this week actually and see what retention bonus they offered.

I was too busy doing other promotions to do the bonus miles offer this past summer and then they didn't "invite" me to do the one this fall/winter. It seems like you need to keep participating in them or they won't bother sending you the next one. I'm bummed about missing this fall/winter one.

Also, if the retention bonus is reasonable, I may keep the card because they just eliminated foreign transaction fees and I'm actually heading to the UK over XMAS/New Years (but not on BA). Lucky made me aware of this on his link: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/onemil...nsaction-fees/

What retention offers have people been getting?

Also, has anyone tried to negotiate a better redemption offer?

It's not that simple. I kept participating (shooting for and made the $30K 241) and they didn't send it to me. It would make sense that they'd target the middle ground (those that use it a bit, but could use more if given incentive), but I'm guessing their formula for whom to target is fairly complex.
