Your problem is not the card type. Your problem is the time elapse since your last AMEX.

See post 6956 just a few posts above yours.

The time needed between last successful application and new application has been discussed probably 50 times or more just in the last few weeks.

Below is not directed to you but to the newbies who come upon this thread.

Newbies please read carefully and write down notes if you do not have the ability to memorize details. All questions asked in the past 30 pages have been asked and answered whether directly by answers posted or indirectly by empirical data posted.

Please read carefully and thoroughly. It requires some efforts of your own to achieve positive results.

Yeah, $4k spend is still working, you can even call them an apply over the phone for the $4k in spend card. Question was is the $1500 in spend still working through the link. Some have said to clear the cookies, and apply with the $1500 link.

DO NOT CALL CITI!!!!!

If your ethics allow, a couple of mint orders will bump you up to $4k real quick.
Why not call Citi? How else do you confirm if a promo still exists or not?

Have you really thoroughly read the Post No.2?

The offers have officially expired months ago. Calling can only bring attention to the bank that the offers should be taken down because it has passed expiration since Oct 2010 or Feb 2011.

There are a doz or more posts just in this week about the offers still work as they are expected. What else you need to "confirm"?

If you are going to benefit from information on FT in the future, the Rule No.1 on any deals that should NOT have existed at the first place but still exist, is to NOT call the company to make them take a closer look and then shuts the offers down, thus making others not able to take the advantage because some folks insisted to call - they not only shut themselves out of it but also hurt others who still plan to take the offer.

This is really common sense. Anyone has some common sense would understand WHY not to call.

Who's cancelling last year's AA Citi card?

Just wondering. I opened it last september, and Im going to cancel it either this month or next. Unless they waive the annual fee. For now I just cant justify the fee for that card.

I will close my business card when it gets closer to the 1 year mark. I will probably keep my personal card open for at least another year.

I just came up on 11 months on my card. I put some moderate spend on this over the past year (maybe 25-30k) and said I wanted to cancel because the annual fee was coming up. I was transferred to an 'account specialist' who thanked me for using the card frequently and offered me an $85 credit after five purchases within three months. No mention of extra miles.

Just called to close my business card - annual fee is in September. They offered me 2500 miles to stay or 10,000 miles if I spend $5,000 in the next 6 months. As I just received 2 new personal cards for both DH and myself - I have enough spending to do - so I took the quick and easy 2500. Might still cancel in September though.. :-)

It's gone...if they had 2x/miles for AA purchases, it might be worth keeping.

Canceled my biz card last night.
They gave me 1K limit and wouldn't raise it. My personal card has 35K I think.
Makes no sense what so ever.

Possible problems with the links on Page 1 not previous reported. I signed up for the 1500 Visa and the 4000 Amex personal cards in Early July. Called in to verify the bonus and I was told only 50k miles would be given! And not the 75k! This was the case for both cards! Has anyone who applied recently through those links had this happen?

That is the same retention offer I received for my personal card. Will cancel my business card when annual fee is due to come up. Don't need two of these cards as they don't offer anything of value beyond the initial sign-up bonus.

I got a personal visa in March and called last week to cancel. They transferred me to an account specialist who asked why I wanted to cancel and I told her I get better rewards from other cards. She tried to trick me by telling me that since march I have gotten 18 miled per dollar spent, but I told her that was just cause of the bonus and I was only getting 1 mile per dollar now. She then offered me 750 miles per month for a year if I spent $750 and an $85 credit this month for next year's for the annual fee even though I will not be charged the annual fee until next March.

I figured it was a pretty decent deal so I kept the card and will cancel next February.
