There actually are better TD Ameritrade offers out there. I just signed for 20000 Starpoints (which I can transfer into 25000 AA miles) for just a $25000 deposit into a TD Ameritrade account.

And Freefrequentflyermiles.com has a long list of their offers - all of which have been extended to Sept. 30. According to my research on FT, TD Ameritrade has been offering these deals consistently since 2003!

There are a number of TD Ameritrade threads on FT. I'm not sure which is the best.

Here is what Freefrequentflyermiles.com lists for TD Ameritrade's offers (again all have been extended to Sept. 30):

# American (Expires June 30, 2010.)
Initial Deposit Miles earned
$2,500 5,000
$10,000 15,000
$50,000 25,000

# Delta (Expires June 30, 2010.)
Initial Deposit Miles earned
$2,500 5,000
$10,000 15,000
$50,000 25,000

# United (Expires June 30, 2010.)
Initial Deposit Miles earned
$2,500 5,000
$10,000 15,000
$50,000 25,000

# Continental (Expires June 30, 2010.)
Initial Deposit Miles earned
$2,500 5,000
$10,000 15,000
$50,000 25,000

# U.S. Airways (Expires June 30, 2010.)
Initial Deposit Miles earned
$2,500 5,000
$10,000 15,000
$50,000 25,000

# Starwood (Expires June 30, 2010.)

Initial Deposit Points earned
$2,000 3,000
$10,000 10,000
$25,000 20,000
Note:

* Since 20,000 Starwood points gets you 25,000 miles on a large number of airlines (except United or Continental), the $25,000 Starwood offer is by far the best for initial deposits of $25,000 or more.

# Amtrak (Expires June 30, 2010.)
Initial Deposit Points earned
$2,500 5,000
$10,000 15,000
$50,000 25,000

I got same offer for United miles today.

yojimbo Jul 12, 2010 7:54 pm

Does anyone know if taking advantage of these offers triggers the issuance of a 1099 form from TD Ameritrade?

These offers seem to be for initial funding of a new account. The offers emailed today are for adding funds to an existing account.

Interesting. Fidelity went up to 50K miles for $100K deposit.

May we all be the beneficiaries of this competition!

Unfortunately for me, I've done accounts at both TD Ameritrade and Fidelity, for both myself and my wife. Maybe some other brokerage will enter the ring.

Can we still cycle money or not???

If it says initial funding I would have to transfer over 25000 in one shot or can I transfer in and out money to equal 25000 thanks

I did a TD promo maybe 5-6 years ago.

I know they, as well as AMEX and some others,
are famous for their persistence of memory.

However, after all this time, has anyone ever succeeded
in getting a second bonus despite the once per lifetime limit ??

mgunadi Jul 13, 2010 2:10 am

So we have to keep the whole $300K for 12 month to get 75K United miles?

ooodsie Jul 14, 2010 2:14 pm

Does anyone know if they are strict about the amount of time you need to leave the funds in the account? I recently did this and now want to move it to Fidelity to take advantage of their offer.. but I am a few months shy of the required minimum on Ameritrade.

In the past, they've been flexible (or lazy about checking), but I don't think the Fidelity offer is going anywhere any time soon; I would comply with TDA's requirements if I were you.

I got the same TD Ameritrade/AA offer - seems like a good deal for existing customers since most of the bonuses I see are only for new customers.

On another note, I have received the SPG 20,000 points 3 times so far - I just closed my account after the required 9 months and opened a new one a few months later.

rayhurst Jul 16, 2010 7:48 am

I do not currently have a TD Ameritrade account. If I open an account and transfer $50,000 in stocks/bonds to that account, I should get 25,000 AA miles (if that promo is still open). Could I then do the promo listed in this thread and transfer another $300,000 of stocks/bonds into the account to get another 75,000 miles for a total of 100,000 miles?

It seems like this is a targeted offer so there is no guarantee I would get the targeted offer. Any way to know if I will receive a targeted offer in advance?

Yes why not? I was not targeted and sent them a secure email and voila' I became targeted. All is needed is to ask to be eligible and they will make you eligible.

So now that I read that fine print, I wonder if these 2 offers would be mutually exclusive. The offer is available for NEW accounts as well as existing and the normal initial funding bonus offer is also for 25k miles for $50k deposit. So if I do the new account offer and get 25k for $50k, I wonder if I will be excluded from this new transfer offer. I guess the only way to know is to call or just do it.
