Join both. You will never have a better opportunity to have two accounts in one program. Then resist offers (that are typically 500-1,000 miles in other merging airlines) to consolidate them. The benefit? You have two places to earn every bonus. And particularly those that are capped. For example, rental car partner bonuses. @:-)
