I thought one benefit for BA miles is that they don't expire. True?

False. They expire in 3 years if there is no account activity during that time. (This is more generous than AA's 18-month expiration policy.)

BA miles can be redeemed on Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Iberia for U.S.-Europe travel; AA miles can be redeemed on Air Tahiti Nui, Finnair, and Iberia for U.S.-Europe travel.
Shall we add that AA miles can be redeemed on BA to Europe via Canada or Mexico?

To some this is actually an added benefit.

Yes, of course. And one can use AA miles to fly BA between Bermuda or the Caribbean and London, as well. Which brings up this question: On an AA all-partner award routing between the U.S. and London via Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, or the Caribbean, would any of those connecting points count as the North American gateway for free stopover purposes, or is the North American gateway limited to U.S. cities?

Good question. I believe this point has been discussed and debated when the change first took place in May of 2009. I believe someone reported his stopover in Caribbeans was shot down. On the other hand YYZ & YVR seem to be sanctioned as qualified. My guess is, the gateway cities would have to be either US or Canada as in the domestic award.

It is so easy to keep AA miles active that this should not be a significant consideration.
