To avoid such, if one departs from, say SFO or MIA, picks the 3-class flight to get C cabin. Unfortunately SEA-DFW is served by 2-class flights only.

Yeah, I am afraid the rules don't work too favorably for aaron1262. But, I've been warming up to the Easter Island idea. It would be relatively easy to work Hawaii into the mix.

Since you can easily get to DFW, I would use DFW as starting city to search for AA award on AA's own site.

Remember AA now is on One-Way award chart. Also remember BA also offers One-Way. ...

Good ideas, Happy. I will definitely try both.

I don't think you'll have trouble with that. I did a few test searches on aa.com and ba.com and found surprisingly good availability on MIA-LIM (eco and biz). IAH-MIA, on the other hand, was a bit more challenging; on many dates, aa.com spits out some pretty creative routings for this sector (involving RJs connecting in airports I've never heard of), which are seemingly too complex for ba's search engine to process. So, you might fare best by focusing on dates with lightly booked IAH-MIA flights.

Thanks Moondog for the diagnosis.

Happy and Moondog, thanks for the help. Now I don't feel so hopeless. I will have enough miles to get 3 business class tickets or 2 business class and 2 coach tickets. Let's hope, with your strategies, I can use those miles.

Just booked a flight from lax to UPC ( Easter island) for 40k miles and about 90$ in taxes. This is the best bang for your Buck considering flights costs 1500 plus normally

Sure. I don't have details off top of my head, but it is

Lax to scl on april 16 via lima. Then scl to ipc on 17th

Returning ipc to scl to lim to la on the 24th. I'm laying over in scl on the 21st which they allow.

I had to do this on the phone and they were quite helpful. One thing to note is that you have to fly from lax or a lan chile destination. I'm coming from s.f. and have to find my own flight to lax

Yes LA's gateway at West Coast is LAX.

I wonder if one can book 2 x One-way and adds EZE in the mix with the overland portion using other means.

This is good possibility for me, too. Just have to find out if they would like me have a layover in Lima. I assume you called BA and used BA miles. Now I am totally excited. Can't wait for my 100K BA miles.

BA allows stopovers at all natural connection points, so LIM would work in this case.

That's right, I used 40k ba miles per person. You can stop at santiago or lima. Almost too good to be true if you ask me

Are you doing 4 one ways NA-FarEast in Y? Or 5 one ways to/from IPC? :)

Not necessary if he has positioning flights to IPC first ;)

Any way to fly FL to Europe on AA without BA to keep award tix costs down?

I can be ultra flexible on dates and airports, am willing to fly from Jacksonville, jax, or orlando, mco to pretty much anywhere in europe in march or june-sep 2010. I have checked aa.com seats and found dates that BA doesn't list on their site, but then BA comes up with London-Miami w/ partner AA back to MCO or JAX (so I still would end up paying their $300+ ticket price +50,000 miles). I've never flown or had BA miles before the recent 100k mile cc promo so I'm still pretty new to this but have already spent lots of time and come up with not much. I'd really appreciate if anybody has any ideas how I can get to Europe for less $$$$$. Thanks!

Two relevant points:

1) aa.com only shows flights on AA metal
2) you can not redeem BA miles on AA metal trans Atlantic (to/from the USA)

You could research Iberia, FinnAir, etc, but this probably won't help much since neither serves JAX.

Do you have any interest in South America or Hawaii?

Mr. Bean Jan 1, 2010 12:36 pm

You could fly down to a S. American airport served by LAN, then fly LAN to MAD or FRA.

This would use 2 awards.
