BA miles redemption tax versus AA

IS the tax for using miles to fly from bos to lhr that much higher using BA miles versus AA miles? I have seem some comments on how high BA is and wonder if anyone knows if it is different between the two cards and mileage programs. Can't check it out with BA since don't have a number yet.

thanks

Try booking a ticket. Fees will be listed on BA. Same fees apply for Award as regular ticketing.

I dont know what it would be from BOS but recently (last week) did a JFK-LHR trip ( BOS & JFk might not have the same taxes but it can only be a buck or so different)

AA was 40k in miles and $128.60

BA was 50k in miles and $350.83 or some $222 more for FS

almost had to route back via BOS and AA uses a 763 between BOS-LHR and 777s JFK-LHR which have a much better IFE, no idea what BA uses

FS is ?

AA bos to lhr is using smaller planes starting soon if not already. will be 3 and 3 seating across. no entertainment center in back of seats.

The same thing as YQ/YR. :p

you will have to pay that amount if flying on BA with BA miles.

also for those that arent aware You cant use BA miles and fly on AA across the Pond or use AA miles and fly on BA across the Pond. But once @ LHR you can connect on a BA flight having used AA miles, and likewise once in the US you can connect on AA having flown in on BA

the only No No is the flight itself over The Pond

Sortof. You can't cross the pond between the USA and London. There are a number of other routing options from Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas, among others, that are permissible. :-:

Actually , no, you CAN use AA miles to book BA across the Pond, from Canada or Caribbean. Just not between USA and UK that's all.

If you use AAdvantage to book BA miles, you will not be charged any fuel surcharges. But if you book using BA miles, you will be charged fuel surcharges on any of its partner airlines - which will include AA on some routes, and of course it includes BA.

Even on Alaska Airlines' programme, you will be charged fuel surcharges on BA award flights. But only that. You are quite exempt on Fuel Surcharges on Alaska's other partners.

I am confused by your post.

My understanding is, using BA miles to book partner award flights, the fuel surcharge is much lower than book BA's own flights.

I suspect Guy Betsy meant to say "many" instead of "any," but this remains a topic of curiosity that we won't be able to fully unravel until enough us that are interested get miles into our accounts so we can start making dummy bookings on partner flights.

I'm pretty confident that very few AA redemptions entail YQ because tmk AA doesn't collect YQ on award tickets (though I wouldn't be shocked if there were some strange exceptions).

What's more, I've heard good things about CX, JL, and IB, but must admit that I haven't done any testing yet myself.

I recently tried booking a JL flight with BA miles for NRT-LAX. With BA, have to go through LHR and cost 48K miles + $450 (one way). With JL the cost is 25K miles and $120.

This means that BA is collecting the YQ that JL charges for the route ($72). :td: since that fee is not passed on to JL anyway.

Since JL doesn't fly NRT-LHR-LAX, I can only presume that you were being quoted at least one segment on BA (LHR-LAX), which entails YQ. I'm more interested in the fees associated with booking JL062 (NRT-LAX) with BA miles. From what I've been able to ascertain elsewhere, there is no YQ in this case.

I was quoting what BA.com gave me in both cases...

In other words, using BA miles, it would cost me

BA: NRT-LHR-LAX, 48K BA miles + $450

JL: NRT-LAX, 25K BA miles + $120 ($72 of which is YQ that JL charges for the route)

Compare this to what AA is charging for NRT-LAX: 25K AA miles + $46 in fees. Gee, 46 + 72 = 118, exactly what BA wanted in "fees" :td:

EDIT: Actually the 48K quote for BA is for cash + miles. It would cost 60K miles and $336 in fees for flying BA.

Oh, so the $120 includes YQ of $72? That's not too outrageous, but higher than I would have hoped.
