PBS Version of FF Documentary - Invitation to Join Debate
Hi all. Some of you may have already seen my documentary "Frequent Flyer", linked to in my signature. I thought you might be interested to know, since it's a movie revolving around FT, that there's now a shorter version (13 minutes or so) up on the PBS Frontline/World website, here:
http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/ro...feet_freq.html
Quite aside from the shameless self-promotion, the reason I'm mentioning it here is that most of the comments on there so far are from people who feel that our miles-collecting hobby is highly damaging to the environment. I personally tend to think that it's easy to beat up on airplanes without seeing the complexity of the situation. I'm totally open to debate on this, so I'd love to have some FTers go over there and join in the discussion, however you might feel on the issue. I suppose what I'm thinking is that the typical PBS audience (with exceptions of course) is going to be a bit one-sided on this, and maybe we could get some people who actually do mileage runs and the like to liven up the discussion a bit. So this is my invitation to everyone here to check out this new version and let me (and the world) know what you think.
And thanks for all the support so far!

Seriously, very nice work !
This could help to explain ourselves to others.
Except we already know that is futile.
All those nasty comments; the same morality hijack
that follows all good fare mistakes or hotel "deals".
Might as well give up showing this to anyone ouside our world.
We are the bottom feeders.
Now I'm going back and watch the longer version.
Can't get enough.

I really enjoyed watching the original video and thank you for creating it. The part where Randy talks about how having miles gives you freedom is very true!
Knowing that I could could book a first class flight to visit another country on a whim is an awesome feeling to have! You can tell people the things you will do to earn miles and they will most likely think you are crazy.... and then they will ask you if they can get a free ticket to fly somewhere!

Thanks a lot everyone, your comments mean a lot to me!
By the way if you make a comment on the PBS site, I don't think they're screening out anything apart from the usual crazy stuff and SPAM, so your comments should make it up there. And if they don't, I will take it up with them.

I just watched the 20-minute version. What excellent work! Of course, the subject matter is appealing to me, but as an artistic piece I thought this was work of the highest quality! I'm curious -- what did you shoot it with?

Thanks PTravel. Shot it on two different Panasonic HD cameras which record onto P2 cards instead of tape, one compact and ideal for inside airplanes and solo shoots (the HVX-170), and the other quite large, with a great lens, for shooting airfields and interviews (the HPX500).

How strong do anti-aviation environmentalists express themselves?

this video is well done, kudos Gordon!
I just shared the link with the AAngels at the AUS club as well as family and friends
the AAngels were enthusiastic over the PR aspects. maybe some of the rest (fam & friends) will at least understand a bit about the motivation behind my quest for EXP and the perqs
[writing this while chilling at AUS club, waiting to fly to BOS via DFW, upgraded on both segs]
