Need help with becoming a frequent flyer
Hi there,
I just registered here hoping that I will find expert(s) which will help me with the problem.
I'm registered with Miles and More (LH) and my status miles = 29.5k which means I'm only 5.5k away from becoming a FF, but as you know I'd have to earn it before EOY (20+ days left).
Do you guys have any tips on how to make it happen and if it's even worth of say paying for a return flight(s) in December to achieve it?
My profile may be helpful: I travel a few times a year for pleasure + few times for business, NY-based European (which means I visit family in Europe every few months).
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

This is called a mileage run and a very frequent occurrence amongst Flyertalkers. So much so that many have to find ways to justify it to their family. Then family experiences upgrades and free tickets and no more questions are asked.
Check out the Lufthansa forum for more detailed responses and to see what bonuses are going on.
Welcome to the insanity. It's great on this side of reality.

Welcome to Flyer Talk. It looks like you need to do a "mileage run". I like http://www.farecompare.com/search/flyertalk.html Use the filters to limit your search to Europe on LH. It looks like the cost will be 8 cents a mile, but it may be worth it if status is important to you. In addition, you have family you may want to visit.

Thanks
Thanks guys for the great tips.
I'm currently on FareCompare checking all possibilities.
I chose StarAlliance as I guess not only Lufthansa can give me points.
So my options are to go to Europe or Alaska (never been) or Venezuela.
The price it shows is cheaper than when checking via kayak.
Is there any way to buy there?
Also how do you make sure that you'll collect the number of miles as shown?
(I guess it depends on a booking class).
Asking because recently flew JFK-SFO-JFK with UA and one way collected 2,572 (V) but the way back 1,286 (W). Ticket bought via kayak(orbitz).
I know that it may sound lame for you, but I'm a newbie.
Thanks.

Welcome to FT!
First off..in the life of chasing the miles it is very important to know what booking class you are in especially when you are flying with a partner like UA.
click here to find out which booking codes earn 100% miles and which ones earn only partial mileage. If you want to find fares easily and also find out the booking code use the ITA search tool. This is a very popular resource on flyertalk. For future reference on UA booking codes E H M Q U V earn 100% on MM. Also, to maximize mileage it is popular to do multiple connections. Instead of flying NY-SF direct go NY-Chicago-Seattle-SF for miles. Alot of times for the same price
Hope this helps..good luck

I did a several searches and it usually shows me L class for UA (x0.5)
Two questions:
Is there any way to search for a better booking class?
Is the shown class going to be the same when I go ahead and book say on orbitz for this given flight?
