Switching between FF programs
With the current DEQM promo from AA, I can easily become AA Plat by doing a MR with them for about $1,200. I'm Gold with Delta right now and based in NYC, most visited destination is SE Asia. Will this be a good move for me long-term? I'll have earned about 15K EQMs with Delta by the end of May. Any advice would be appreciated.

AA service to SE Asia is all code-share. DL service is mostly via NRT on DL/NW metal. You likely have a decent investment in the DL program right now in terms of accrued miles and the like, too.
Unless you plan on shifting wholesale to AA going forward, spending the $1200 is a waste of money, IMO. Besides, you can probably get Plat with them for way less money if you do it via their traditional challenge rather than using the DEQM approach.

Why do you want to switch?
Hi,
I am just curious why do you want to switch to AA just because of this promo? From your description, it seems that if SE Asia is your main destination, I think it will be wiser to use the money spend on AA to move from Silver to Gld with Skymiles.
Since DL has taken over NW, your chances of any FF benefits are higher by flying DL/NW metal to SE Asia rather than to codeshare AA flights on CX metals. Futhermore, if you do make it to Plat with DL, you will even get the systemwide upgrade coupons for use with certain fare classes for your trips down to SE Asia.
Sorry, but i just don't see the logic here switching to AA if you don't fly frequently with AA/OW and your main destinations are in SE Asia where DL/NW has a better coverage with their own metal.
If I were you, I will stick with DL, unless you see in the long-term your flying pattern will change and you move towards AA destinations.
Just my 2cents..

if moving to anything, i would do ua, since they fly their own metal to asia (jfk/pek/nrt/sin/pvg etc), but i wouldn't do aa. you can also take the PS flight from JFK to SFO which i did my first route on that in biz class using e500 stickers, and i LOVED that plane soooooooo much.
ua will status match you.
i don't know anything about dl/nw so can't really compare.
