This works because SAVE48 coupon code removes $48 from fare. Nothing special. Fares for say BOS-FLL also drop by $48.

Not only does it remove $48 from the fare, but it tells the system to neglect to add taxes on. Taxes add on normally when booking a normal round trip without coupon.

Sure, it's funny. I know I'd be scratching my head if I saw those names on the flight manifest and had to call them on the PA. But its also reason for Spirit to deny EVERYONE's tickets due to "abuse". That is clear abuse of the fare.

Incorrect. The BOS-FLL tags on taxes because the fare AFTER coupon code is still more than $0.
FLL-TPA is $0 because taxes on fare of $0 = $0.

Incorrect. You're assuming these taxes are a percentage, which they are not. The US security taxes are usually flat-fees, and must be charged on all tickets.

If that were the case, that its a percentage, then the taxes would be proportional to the fare. I booked a ticket on Spirit during their 18 cent fares on Monday/Tuesday. I paid $0.36 round-trip, and my taxes were around $21.00

Fares do not include (a) a segment tax of $3.40 per U.S. domestic flight segment (a flight segment is defined as one takeoff and landing) of a passenger's itinerary; (b) up to $18 per round trip in local airport charges; or (c) a September 11th Security Fee of $2.50 per enplanement originating at a U.S. airport.
They're flat fees that must be added to any airline ticket, regardless of fare.

An example...

Here's an example before you post a rebuttal:

05/15/2008 NK607 Fort Lauderdale/Miami Area (FLL) to Nassau, Bahamas (NAS) 2:42 PM-3:44 PM Deluxe Leather 183
05/15/2008 NK486 Nassau, Bahamas (NAS) to Fort Lauderdale/Miami Area (FLL) 4:35 PM-5:35 PM Deluxe Leather 183

Number of Passengers: 1
Airfare+: $0.00
Taxes and Fees: $49.00 (what's this?)
Total: $49.00
Total Due: $49.00

The coupon fare is $0 each way (you can check) but yet it still shows the international taxes.

There's a glitch that isn't adding taxes into the intra-Florida destinations.

Therefore your logic:

FLL-TPA is $0 because taxes on fare of $0 = $0.
is incorrect.

Still working!

Number of Passengers: 1

I'd do it, but I have absoluely no need for any itin remotely like this, and I'm concerned that NK would come back after the fact and charge my cc for the taxes.

OK. I thought that taxes were levied only on fares > 0. Per your example that is not the case.
So what is this glitch then? Did NK write software that says: "WHEN intra florida AND fare = 0, THEN tax = 0"? Kinda weird...

Yes, it is kind of weird, I'll give you that.

They don't write code like the "If, then=". Tax information is usually (from what I've seen) pre-entered into the corresponding fare information (fare construction).

I think someone just forgot to add it in for these fares, or they were deleted accidentally. It's also possible that ALL USA-based taxes of these types with the coupon code aren't being computed - the $49 taxes in the Bahamas example, I can tell you for certain, are Nassau airport and Bahamas departure taxes. They're also a very even $49.
