You are right, soitgoes. My bad. Rudi has only accumulated a paltry 65,000,000.

If you click on the red copy in my previous post, lucky9876coins, it will take you to one thread.

Here is another:

http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthrea...highlight=coop

They have quite a few discussions on this topic in the Miles and More forum.

If you do the math (think about it), 4 x 25,000 = 100,000 miles. I think that's enough for a first class international ticket (at the time).

So if 4 x $425 = $1700, that's a pretty cheap 1st class ticket. Let's not forget the additional UA goodies that went along with this (SWU's and HK49's, now called CR1's).

In the old days, Flyertalkers were very creative as we are today.

This guy was a minor celebrity in Canada. His story brought me to FlyerTalk. Marc Tacchi - The Great Canadian Mileage Run 2005 http://gcmr2005.blogspot.com/2005/11...ion-miles.html

He turned a $7000CAD (worth much less then) 2 month Flight Pass into 1 million Air Canada miles. Before I discovered FlyerTalk, I thought he was the Babe Ruth of Frequent Flyers. Based on fame and achievement, he deserves a place in the Hall of Fame.

That is impressive Rudi.

BTW according to the link it was 65 million starpoints, which is a bit less miles after conversion. Still a very big amount - and no wonder it can be hard redeeming my hard earned (exclusively from flying lots) miles when I'm up against Rudi and family.

My favorite that I can not find the thread from was the NW Vacations screw up in Summer 2007 where I managed to snag my brother a RT DTW-ORD-DTW flight, 2 days with a large SUV, and 2 nights at some hotel for $23 total.

Search is not working too well for me on the Mac, but I think you should include the $27/night Zurich Best Western hotel deal

For those who didn't get enough Walk Down Memory Lane at the Legends Panel discussion in Chicago on Sunday, you'll enjoy this thread. It's really educational as to what to do when an opportunity presents itself. BE DECISIVE. These days, with more sophisticated computer systems, the deal can be gone in a couple hours. And then be patient, as we wait to see if the travel provider will honor it. A lot of deals come from first time posters. Respect them, as sometimes their first post will be a great gift for the rest of us.

Oh going down memory lane is fun! Back in 1985 there was an AA promo with Skippy peanut butter that got you a companion ticket for next to free. Used numerous for mileage runs to and from Hawaii. The local homeless shelter received cases of peanut butter from us.
There was a promo involving Bic razors, that maybe someone can help jog my memory on, but we donated bags of razors.
AA miles on cereal boxes.
Long before Coke Rewards was a coke relate promo via Safeway and short lived that caused us to have a wall of coke products in our basement.
Healthy Choice and the Wendy cup promos were fun.
The Goldpoints/ValueMags was lucrative but I particularly liked ordering some really nice merchandise from Orvis for a better than break even conversion on this same promotion.
There was a huge bonus offered by Citi Bank if I'm correct for opening new IRA accts. My kids had accounts before they were 2! So mid to late 80's!
Definitely some fun times (and a little weird).^
