Seeing how their website behaves the last few days, I'm shocked so many of us managed to get through the ticketing process. I am seriously trying to book additional travel on HX which I am only doing due to their honourable stance on these tickets but cannot for the life of me get the site to remain stable from searching thru ticketing.

In their FF program, do they award points based on miles or "spend" ?

Based on miles. I checked with them that my fare is J (130%)

If you do not have other status with other airline, just based on a LAX-HKG-PVG return will get you 30000++ miles which qualifies for their Fortune Wings Club Silver.

If you do a status match with any airline(example gold), just based on a LAX-HKG-PVG one way will get you matched with Fortune Wings Club Gold.

FWC back-end systems are shared by HX and Hainan.

Keep in mind both email and phone are unique across all accounts in the database (for those creating accounts for others)

See link below on the status challenge (flying, not status matching)

Thanks. They seem to have a status match program as well - "accelerate"

You cannot do it on the outbound without a refare of the entire ticket. Return may be possible but only after the outbound has started.

Doing so without contacting airlines and re-pricing (which will be thousands) will render the remaining segments void. If you book PVG-HKG-LAX and drop the last segment (HGK-PVG) on return flight then it's a different story. Some FFPs will not credit miles due to HCT (hidden city ticketing) if you do this such as CX.

If it's due to lack of Chinese visa, have a cheap connecting flight to another non-Chinese destination other than Hong Kong, at the moment the cheapest is PVG-MFM with Juneyao for a little over $100 (rt) and you'd be able to transit through China visa free (Hong Kong - Shanghai - Macau), and you'd be able to easily get back to HK by boat.

p.s. It'd be prudent to double check here just to be sure

Probably should have taken this deal but unfortunately was not available around December/January school holidays and could not find dates past May. Zero EQM on a major alliance was also a factor - hard to justify 30 hours of flying time (15x2) unless I can fit into a family vacation or mileage run. But congrats to all those who had the flexibility and luck to score. Kudos to HK for honoring the fare as they should.

Brings back memories of the best deal I ever found here - UA's $500 business class flights to NZ in 2006.

Last year, a cancelled KLM ticket took almost a month to be credited back to my card. I wouldn't expect another non-US carrier to be any faster.

Just got a flight notification that my PVG-HKG flight schedule changed. It looks like they added an hour but no other changes. Strange, anyone know whats up with that? Flight is in October. Maybe Daylight savings time change?
