UA- $589 PQD-short to 1k ....ugh
Hey all
I've been 1k every year for a while and now I'm looking like I'm just under $600 short on my PQD spend for the year on United. The bummer is that I don't have time to do any more flying this year. I am well over the miles and segs. Anybody have any good suggestions for me? I would gladly just pay and not fly....but you know the deal.

OP are you literally working all the time or do you have nights off? Can you take the last flight to a nearby place, stay in an airport hotel, and fly back in on the first flight the next morning?
Ex: SFO-MRY 10:35-11:19p on December 26; MRY-SFO 5:45-6:26a on December 27

Great idea by davie355!
PDX might also be an option. Looks like there's a bunch of hotels right at the airport that's in the $75-120 range (Hilton/Hyatt/Sheraton/etc). You could do something like:
Mon 28 Dec
UA766 SFO-PDX 2007-2157
Tue 29 Dec
UA392 PDX-SFO 0541-0732
The lowest F fare is $450-ish, so you need to up-fare until you hit your goal.
Good luck!

To the OP... either find a time to do it, or be relegated to platinum for a year.
Personally, I would bend over backwards to find a way to make it work out. That $600 will buy you 6 GPU certificates, 2 RPU certificates, and 2 additional RDM's per mile flown in 2016.... not to mention increased upgrade priority. I say this is a great deal and an excuse to call in sick for a day to get it done if needed.

United has offered status buy-up's the last couple years for those who came up somewhat short starting in January. However, you can expect the price will likely be above your current $589 shortfall. Here's a discussion thread on last year's offers --

E+ subscription = PQD?
Any way for OP to get an Economy Plus subscription? According to the PQD FAQ:
Good luck!
What Economy Plus purchases earn PQD?
You will earn PQD for Economy Plus purchases, whether a one-time purchase or a subscription.
PQD from one-time Economy Plus purchases credit to the member who travels in Economy Plus seating. PQD from Economy Plus subscriptions credit to the holder of the subscription.
OP already gets free E+, but any rule prohibiting an E+ subscription? Perhaps worth calling to see if that can be done. Price for North and Central America is $599, should also check if all of it counts toward PQD.You will earn PQD for Economy Plus purchases, whether a one-time purchase or a subscription.
