I need to spend 1783.00 on Delta to get to gold

I need to maximize my remaining balance. I'm 10K away from gold. I can easily hit the 10K for a lot less than spending 1783.00. I just want to maximize the MQM's.

I Fly out of DTW and FNT 90% of the time I could fly out of ORD if necessary.

Any routes international or domestic from the end of 22 of October to Dec 31st will work...

I know DTW is always a challenge that's why I need some help...

Thanks

Actually the 40K extra with delta would roll over to the following year... I would loose the 300.00 thou..

He said he wants as many miles as possible for 1.7k... And if you click on the link, current prices for that route are as low as 850. So 2x = 1700.

Unless flying out of not-LAX increases the cost so much, that I dont know.

I have been dealing with this issue. I might have to one way it to lax with another airline..

WAS-JNB is around $750 right now. It's a lot cheaper to position to BWI/DCA/IAD than to LAX from DTW. Plus you can do hidden city routing through DTW on the return so you only need a one-way ticket to WAS. WN is having a $49 fare sale right now on one-way flights from DTW to BWI. You can use MARC/Metro trains to get from BWI to DCA if you want to originate from DCA instead of BWI.

By the time you exclude taxes and government imposed fees that are not eligible for MQD earnings, typically around 15% of the total fare, it's not that far out of line. And if you're going to spend $1,783 on DL but can get far more MQMs per $$$ if you spend closer to $2k, then why not?

Though the bigger question I'd be asking... is a year of Gold really worth $1,783 to you? To each his own, but I really don't consider Gold benefits to be worth anywhere near that amount when you're talking about pure out-of-pocket spend solely for the purpose of obtaining status.

ITA finds ORD-ATL-NRT-SIN-NRT-ATL-ORD ~21k MQM for $985 on 12/1 and about $100 more on 12/8, although it's being really twitchy for me when clicking on individual itinerary details (I got it to come up once; most of the time it errors out quickly and says "Session not found" and goes back to the search screen)

USA to Santiago (Chile) RT in D1 has been pricing around $1700 according to a thread in the Premium Fare Deals sub forum. These are Z fares that earn 150% MQMs.

Unfortunately the Thanksgiving/Christmas business class sale fares (for example, USA-EU RT) are generally significantly over $1700 this year.

BTW, I assume that the OP can't get the MQD waiver from DL AmEx spend, which would also generate some MQMs and RDMs.

I'm in a similar boat on UA, and here's what I would do if I were you. Book a couple full fare Y ticket DTW-MSP around the busy holiday travel period - there's a better chance of getting bumped and getting a voucher to help offset the cost. Worst case - you fly, and get the spend. Best case? Some $$$ back, and the money spent, and it's only a short trip (as compared to the Asia runs).

You are not considering DL's MQM rollovers. Advice for a UA flyer does not necessarily apply to a DL flyer. I'd readily take the extra MQM's in the bank for rollover over a very big gamble on getting a voucher.
