Just made it elite with AC and I need to go to LEI from YYZ. I can leave at the earliest on March 26th but I need to be in LEI on March 29th and I need to be back on April 3rd at the latest. I have e-upgrades and APmiles that I can use. I am hoping to be able to visit either Paris, Vienna, Rome or Munich in the spare days. So the question is how can I maximize the miles on *Alliance, paying the minimum, and still at least have the lie-flat bed for both TA legs? I will only have a carry-on luggage. My company is footing part of the bill if that makes a difference. Thanks for your assistance and knowledge!

Are you going to LEI (Almeria, Spain) or LEJ (Leipzig, Germany)? Your original thread indicates LEI in lieu of LEJ.
If LEJ is your desirable destination then here is a possible itinerary for you:

1. Purchase one-way upgradeable fare from YYZ to CDG
2. Purchase one-way ticket from ORY (Orly) to TXL on Air Berlin and purchase a round trip train ticket between TXL and LEJ
3. Purchase one-way ticket from TXL to MUC on Air Berlin
4. Purchase one-way upgradeable fare from MUC to YYZ

If you intend on gaining the most miles, Always book on AC.COM. You get 1 mile for every 3 dollars (or better if flying business/first) you spend there.

Always try and maximize your connections. If a flight segment is less than 500 Miles, they give you 500 miles.
I can see YYZ-FRA-LEJ, however why not add a point such as YYZ-YUL-FRA-LEJ.

If you are going to be in europe, check out www.lufthansa.com and look at thier trip finder. Great deals for a side trip to milan for example, go for the day, grab the miles. Flights on star alliance partners are great to add to your status miles balance.

You can book upgradeable fares on AC.COM from YYZ to CDG and from MUC to YYZ. Meanwhile, you can purchase one-way ticket from ORY to BER on AirBerlin.com for 60EUR and you can also purchase a train ticket on BAHN.COM for Berlin Bhf/Leipzig Bhf/Munchen Bhf as low as 59EUR.

If your leaving from Toronto, you may get better mileage by driving to Buffalo and fly from there. I once flew from Burlington VT instead of Montreal and had a first connection in Chicago.

Although, you may not be able to use upgrade coupons...
