How to save expiring China Airlines miles?

How to save expiring China Airlines miles?
I have 17000 China Airlines miles that are expiring this year. China airline no longer provides services from the city I am in? Is it possible that I can transfer or do something useful with these points?

The only advice I've seen is get enough miles before they expire to redeem - car rentals etc. or mileage runs.
