Segment Ticketing Limit?

I believe current e-ticketing limits the number of one-way segments on most IATA carriers to 8, or round trip 16? Can someone confirm this, and also whether UA allows this many segments on an MPM fare?

Thanks..

If you are trying to maximize the output from a specific MPM fare then you should check 'transfers' part of the fare rules. It is used to limit the number segment.

My question assumes the number of transfers is not limited by the fare rules. There is, however, a transfer limit dictated by today's ticketing software. What is that limit?

Bump....does anyone know the segment limit dictated by e-ticketing software (IATA process, I believe)?

I think the limit is 16, but the limit you'll most likely run into is what the airline can auto-price.

UA can auto-price 8 segments, not including ARNK segments. CO can auto-price 12.

Anything more than that will require manual pricing by a human, which can be time consuming and expose you to errors if they don't do it right.

It seem to have been 16 segments in 2008 as per links easily found in the net. But there is no mention it differs based on RT or OW. Moreover, 16 segments looks to be a PNR limit as well, as the sources state that other coupons should be in a separate PNR and issued as a separate ticket.

Oneway can go up to 20 segments.. or more..

But for e-ticketing purposes, its 16 segments including Open (ARNK) segments.

It is possible to price beyond that number if the fare allows it...
