I've got SNA, LAX, BUR, and ONT all within 40 miles.

However, I've gone 150 miles down to SAN. I've also taken a bus to LAS (250 miles) and PHX (350 miles) to catch a cheap flight.

Home airport ABQ is 135 miles, 2 1/2 hours each way, every trip. Have driven to COS 4 hours each way and DIA 5 hours each way for certain fares.

I've flown out of ACT, GRK and SAT when flights/awards weren't available from AUS. About 60-90 minutes drive. Furthest I've driven is DFW & IAH about 3.5 hrs each.

ANC is home... no real options around :( (everything else is $$$)

Was in PUW for a while, and GEG was cheapest usually (1.5 hrs North), with LWS either 15 mins south via QX or a 45 minute drive. Even made the drive to SEA to save a few bucks... but never again!!!

Years ago with friends, we drove 6 hours from LA to SFO to catch a much cheaper TPAC flight. Since it was just for leisure travel and we were meeting up with friends in SF, it was cheaper to drive to SFO than fly LAX-SFO.

I've driven down to AUS (~210 miles away) plenty of times for MR's

Even though I live within walking distance to MSN, I sometimes have bussed it down to MDW to take advantage of Southwest and Porter when the savings is substantial. But with Southwest now serving MKE I don't think I'll be going down to MDW very much anymore.

When flying for leisure I always look at DBQ, ORD, MDW, MKE, RFD and ATW as originating airports.

Once for a big mileage run I drove to MKE, then took Amtrak overnight to TOL to start the run at 6AM.

I'm 8 road miles from SFO, and 27 to SJC. I've never flown into/out of OAK, but it's 24 road miles (including a bridge.) So I'm pretty spoiled on being nearby - one of the latter two would be the furthest I'd go, and SJC it usually is for short-haul west coast stuff (both a lot more direct flights to places like SNA/SAN/LAS and cheaper than SFO.)

I've seen some lowers fares out of MRY or SMF a couple of times, but it would have to be a heck of a lot lower to get me to make the drive.

I am only about 10 min from SFO and 30 min from OAK. The fare has to be very good for me to go to OAK for it. SJC, 45 min away is out of the question.

I live in CAE... I consider these to be good choices: CLT, FLO, GSP, CHS, AGS. Starting to stretch it: AVL, GSO, MYR, FAY, RDU, ILM, ATL.

Not much of a driver. I live in MSY and barely drive to MSY to fly out.

If I'm travelling by myself, I stick with MCI (maaaaybe ICT, STL, DSM, or OMA if it saved me $200+). But, when five of us got cheap TATLs ex-ORD, we made the 8-hour roadtrip to save a combined $800 or so.

Depending on the fare savings I have choices to fly out of DTW, FNT, TOL, LAN or GRR. DTW and FNT are both around 40 minutes from me, TOL and LAN are both around 1.5 hours and GRR is the furthest at about 2.5 hours. I have flown out of DTW, FNT and TOL to get significant savings but haven't had the need to fly out of LAN or GRR yet. The funny thing is that if I fly out of any airport other than DTW, chances are good that I'll end up connecting back through DTW. Unfortunately for me it appears that my airline of choice (DL) doesn't seem to be too keen on running any significant fare sales as of late so it really doesn't matter which airport I leave from.

When I used to live in the DC area (2 'o' clock off the Beltway), I drove to PHL (about 3 hours away) to catch a transcon because US had an inexpensive fare and double qualifying miles. This was more than five years ago.

Now I live about 15 minutes from ALB. A couple of weekends ago, I drove down to SWF to catch a flight (about 2 hours drive). Booked the ticket within a week of the flight, which meant ALB was a lot more expensive. (Ended up saving north of $350 even after accounting for gas etc.).

From my home in Cardiff in the UK I drive 143 miles to London Heathrow to fly with British Airways direct to the US.

Far prefer the direct flight than a connection to a hub in Europe.

I know this thread is more US focused however just had to post as I've been doing this weekly for nearly 7-8 years! :D
