Actually it's an excellent time, since the kroner has lost about half of its value versus the dollar.

Problem is, I'm not sure if the season is right...

That's what it says on the Icelandair website too (they worded it a bit more positively though ) :

With the dramatic increase in the value of the US Dollar against the Icelandic Krona, Iceland is now a top bargain destination, giving consumers nearly twice the spending power compared to last year.
But somehow the downward spiral of the economy worries me that I may not experience Iceland at its best.

Actually, it is a terrible deal. Icelandic Air is converting the krona at 111 to the dollar to come up with NYC and Boston fares.

As of Thursday morning, you get 222.9 krona to the dollar.

Icelandair is apparently pricing its fares in ISK no matter where you fly from, at least on the U.S. site.

Pity you earn no useful miles though (other than in the FI FFP).

Tell me where you got the rate. The ISK has rallied against most currencies.

It says ~55k Kronas. Can I pay in Kronas or I have to pay in USD?
55k kronas is about 176 USD and the website quotes 463.?

Not getting that rate on any other source. Only getting an intraday high of ISK 126/USD.

I don't know how Google gets its data but it's showing 304 ISK to the USD at the moment.

USD 463 is approximately the correct price. The ISK/USD rate is 110.

Looks like trading has stopped so that's why there's no useful data. No banks to clear the trade. Seems the last spot trade was at ISK 340/EUR and the spread is 220-400 currently.

I think you can only buy the ticket in ISK if you are in Iceland. Otherwise FI is using the last reported rate. I'd hold off buying for now (though FI may well peg fares in EUR or some other currency).

I know it is right.

I have been tracking hotel prices on a European-based website that sells hotel rooms in Reykjavik in Krona. Their price will lag the website exchange rate by one day, but it has been spot-on every day.

See my post in the Scandinavian board in Travel and Dining from earlier this week.

My biggest challenge is figuring out how to get to Iceland for the spring. You can't use AA or UA miles, and the cheapest flights I have found are out of either London or Copenhagen at about $350 rt. That kind of offsets the savings from some very inexpensive accommodations.

Check fares in the Icelandair site when trading in the ISK resumes. You may be pleasantly surprised if FI doesn't decide to publish its fares in EUR.
