2. SmartWool socks have god-like powers. Wore em for two days straight and have never had warmer, cozier or LESS SMELLY feet in my life.
3. Roll-a-boards are bad carry-ons but good airport bags.
4. Give FAs the chocolate at some point BEFORE the end of the flight.
5. Be prepared to walk at least 17 miles in LHR.
6. Talk to hot Indian-British girls in the airport. They don't have far to run.
7. 767s are actually pretty nice.
8. Bring mints.

The actual end.

I suggest #8 should be above #6 and #1, to increase the odds. :)

I got mine at a Dick's Sporting Goods in Kansas City ($13/pair... ouch), but I've definately seen em at REI, Sport Mart, etc.

They're FREAKING AMAZING.

I know there is an REI in College Park, near where a bunch of my friends are who I visit regularly. I'll have to check it out.

Thanks,

Steve

How about an update from your Dec 9/10 trip.

It didn't happen... I'm so embarassed. Family issues = canceled trip = no 1K = shaaame.

Sorry to hear about that. Please tell us that you at least made 1P.

You can't give up now. You are so close. There is still time. Cowboy up and get it done. Lucky can help you plan the route.

Heh. Lucky is the answer to it all...

Unfortunately, with 18,939 EQM still needed (after already-booked travel) and the double-EQM promotion expiring day after tomorrow, I'm not sure it's possible. It would take two transpacs out of LAX between Dec 26th and Dec31st...

Believe me, if it could be done at a reasonable cost, I'd do it.

:( Continued from the "when will DEQM post" thread...So sorry to hear you won't make it, XJ47, I was not only cheering you on, but was so inspired by your antics that I decided to make a run for it myself. Upon reading your posts, my FATHER was so inspired that he offered to pay for my 1k mileage run. My father is no dummy - he wanted the CRU's!!!! :D Sadly, .bomb booking problems prevented my run (would not let me confirm ord/syd or ord/sin during deqm time, kept crashing, urgh, then coming back up w/6k fares!!!), but at least my father is on FT now and planning runs of his own. ^

In any case, perhaps those of us that didn't make it this year can do some "We are sure as hell making 1k THIS year" runs, say a monthly international to beef up our biz miles? :p

Good try.
Nothing to be ashamed of !
What is your sum total for 2006?
EQM? and EQS?

On behalf of WAS area based FTers, I will apologize. I mostly just wander the AA end of the terminals, but none of our three airports (IAD, DCA, BWI) are much good for grabbing something between flights.

While LAX is similar, at least if one has the time, a quick jump to the International terminal can score you some decent food at reasonable prices to bring back to your flight.

At least on this score, DFW is very nice.

1P aint 1K, but it's not so bad

Hopefully I did the math correctly and you did in fact make 1P.

Granted, you won't have the cool looking black 1K card, the SWUs and CR1s, or a hotel voucher in WX irrops. But, you'll get the same 100% RDM bonus, * Gold status, elite boarding and security, and a fair shot for a random op-up.

Since you got a late start on making 1K, you found out that when unforeseen circumstances arise you don't have enough time to recover. If you still want to make 1K, now is the time to plan. By starting now, you'll be able to pick and choose the most time/cost effective flights to get EQMs and RDMs.

If you're just shooting for status, With your 1P RDM bonuses, you'll be able to upgrade those occasional transpac/lant flights. If you're looking to save the RDMs for award travel, you'll at least be able to get a good seat in the back half of the plane.

In 2006 I bought a house and changed jobs, and the time-commitments of both resulted in my upcoming drop from 1K to 1P. However, I'm back in the game now. In 2 weeks I'll do a SAN-LHR/FRA (circle trip) turn to burn the last of my SWUs. Then I've got one of those mid-week $104 flights to FLL. A February business trip (p.s.) to JFK will put me at 26K EQM before Valentine's Day.

1K is nice, but you should find 1P is not all that bad and a comfortable way to spend the year working towards 1K.
