Since you are already going to Europe I looked for something domestic and hopefully cheaper.
$207.50 (taxes and fees included)
12/6 LAX/JFK/PVD 2619 miles
12/8 PVD/ORD/LAX 2594 miles
5213 miles or 2607 Q pts
So you are 1000 Q pts short. If you do a trip to N.Cal can you earn 500 Q pts each way even in discount economy.
$99.00 (taxes and fees included)
1/10 LAX/SNA/SJC (500 or 1000 Q pts ?)
1/11 SJC/LAX (500 Q pts)

I forgot to mention that it matters which flights you take first if you want to maximize the miles earned. The flight the qualifies you as Plat gets a 100% bonus or a pro-rated bonus based on your old and new status. Better to have done the Europe trip last.
