Q:about RNO-DTW run

You'll have to pardon my (relative) ignorance on this matter - I've been lurking for only a few days, and (as you can tell) it's my first post. So if any of this info is extraneous, please let me know. Anyway...

I'm taking a RNO-DTW trip from around 10/17-18 to 10/22-23. (Dates are flexible to accomodate cost.) I figure I might as well make the most of a run I can out of it.

The priority for me are earned miles on NW, CO, or AA (as the partners for AS), but UA will also do in a pinch. Ultimately, I'd like to not spend too much more than $300, mainly beacuse I'm poor. ;-)

This flight (well, a combo of two) is the best I could come up with:

18 Oct: NW1502 RNO-MSP 645a-1157a
NW3518 MSP-STL 120p-310p
CO3984 STL-CLE 535p-821p
CO7755 CLE-DTW 900p-1000p

22 Oct: CO3152 DTW-CLE 1040a-1146a
CO4273 CLE-STL 1230p-118p
NW600 STL-MSP 540p-724p
NW1507 MSP-RNO 852p-1030p

For about $270, 4856 actual miles (5800+ earned, with segment minimums). My question is: might anyone know of anything better to bump the miles up?

Thanks...

That is a substantial number of status miles for $270 and it's certainly taking all the time I would want to spend getting them in two travel days. Don't let "perfect" become the enemy of "good". You're doing alright with this one for the outlay.

Welcome Mike,

Question: Are you planning on putting your flight miles towards your Alaska Airlines account? If so, are you an AS MVP/Gold?

If so, you're better off sticking only to NW or AA as you get 50%/100% bonus miles for them but not on CO.

Thanks, CS.

As for my AS status, no, I'm not MVP right now, mainly because my flights up and down the coast have been next to nil this year. For 2001, I'll take the miles over the status, because I don't think I'll get enough to get there.

Besides, I'd like to see if *anyone* can get a cheap mileage run off of AS. ;-)
