Nice run for sure. Add in a ICN stop, then you don't need a visa. I just noticed, This is tomorrow?!?! That's crazy.

Get the visa! For US passports its a TEN year tourist visa. Also I believe there's a 72 hour visa waiver at the airport, at least I know that's the case for Shanghai.

Visa waiver only applies if you are transiting to a third country > USA-China-Not China-back (via China or somewhere else).

USA-CHINA-USA does not qualify for the waiver, even if it's less than 72 hours.

The OP was a first-time poster who may be unaware of the visa requirements.

Good find. Routes to both PEK and PVG seem to price in that ballpark from BOS.

China has 2 or now 3 main TWOV - 24 hour and 72, which will be extended to 144 (3 days to 6 days)

You must arrive in China from one country (and HKG counts) and depart to different one

See wiki for excellent info

Please clarify: so arriving from and returning to US within 72 does not work?

Correct!

You have 72 hours to transit to another country. Transiting back to the US, however, is not a third country (as that means China was your destination)

USA-CHINA-USA does not qualify for the waiver, even if it's less than 72 hours.
^ AA has issued a reminder to their agents regarding mileage runs and visa requirements. Buyer beware of all immigration requirements.

Is this correct? Simply adding a stop while retaining the USA as the ultimate destination of the itinerary allows the transit visa?
