edit: even lower fares are available on a handful of dates, and if you have a Citi TY Premier credit card.

I spent a few minutes searching for visa requirements for transit passengers (or nutty MRers who just want to board the next flight back ), but I didn't find an answer on the embassy site. This site indicates you can be in transit up to 7 hours without a visa.
globecircler did not need one for transiting (on the way to another S.A. destination), but it sounds like a bit of a gray area.
P.S.: What's the deal with Citi TYP card?

AA/UA: BOS-FAT (Fresno, CA) $302 AI
4.5 cpm is about the best you can do on this on UA, and you will need 500 mile mins to get the best out of this fare, though same day returns are available at very slightly higher cpms (still under 5 cpm). Available in september, maybe others.
Quick note, if booking BOS-IAH-SFO-FAT outbound and FAT-LAX-onward, SFO-FAT and FAT-LAX have the same flight number, despite a 3-4 hour "layover" at FAT. You may want to book this as two one ways just to make sure it doesn't try to only credit you for a "through" flight.
