10 year + bump.

Any news on A380 coming to ORD any time soon? I know they were working on new gates that can accept it and the new longer runways...

And yes, May of 2018. British Airways is supposedly starting LHR<->ORD with A380.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/busine...808-story.html

London-bound passengers who want to fly the A380 will need to take the British Airways flight departing Chicago at 5:30 p.m. The A380 will fly the 10:50 a.m. flight from London to Chicago.

When Emirates did an A380 test-run to O'Hare last summer, the jetbridge scraped the side of the plane. And I do not believe the Terminal 5 construction has yet got to that new A380-ready gate. So boarding may be interesting in the short-term for that BA A380 next year.

It's ready...has been since EK came in. The bridge incident was caused by operator error, not the bridge itself.

Yes, next year BA has announced and planned 295/294 to operate it with one.

I realize it's probably deliberate in order to maximize connection opportunities when arriving at LHR and ORD, but those are my least favorite times to depart ORD and LHR. Departing ORD at 5:30 pm means arriving LHR at midnight Chicago time with no sleep on the plane, and departing LHR at 10:50 am means leaving Oxfordshire at 6 am.

That's about the time that most Trans Atlantic flights leave ORD.

Both AA and BA have flights to LHR that depart later than 5:30 pm, and I'd much rather be on one of those.

Yes, but not much later. BA was around 9 p.m. last time I flew 5 years ago. It's still not sleeping hours for me though as I don't go to bed till midnight usually.

I know it's not the A380 but I've taken BA296 which departs at 8:40PM and I usually get 4 to 5 hours of sleep on board.

The only LHR flight that departs significantly later is AA98 that departs at 10:30 PM.

A380 switched flights for Chicago ORD

Hello,

Does anybody have anymore information on this? I booked a roundtrip ticket from ORD-LHR the schedule was as follows:

June 14, 2018 ORD-LHR - Flight 0294 - A380 - Depart Chicago: 5:05pm
June 25, 2018 LHR-ORD - Flight 0295 - A380 - Depart London: 10:30am

Now both directions recently switched to Boeing 747's. I am wondering if the flights will eventually be switched back to the A380 given it's still 4 months away, although checking online flights 0296 and 0297 switched to A380's which were originally set as the 747. Even Chicago Tribune had the flights listed as follows below. Can anybody advise on this? I was looking forward to flying a Speedbird A380 lol.

London to Chicago OHareBA295 DEPART LHR 10:50 ARRIVE ORD 13:25 Airbus A380
BA297 DEPART LHR 16:05 ARRIVE ORD 18:40 Boeing 747-400
Chicago OHare to London HeathrowBA294 DEPART ORD 1730 ARRIVE LHR 07:20+1 Airbus A380
BA296 DEPART ORD 2040 ARRIVE LHR 10:25+1 Boeing 747-400

They were switched, so if you really want to fly the A380, rebook to the 297/296 as it won't be reverting back.
