Agreed. And it could be worse....you could live in Kansas City like me ...and be subjected to the AA baseball played by the Royals!!!

Ugh. I hate fickle supporters. They all jump on the bandwagon when they start winning a few games. What's wrong with supporting the team through good games and bad games? Isn't that what being loyal to the club means? Whatever happened to true fans?

Can't win them all.

I completely agree, however, you should be aware that the weekend weather in Chicago was brutal. Rest assured, the several thousand no-shows were because of the rain, wind and temperatures in the 40s. Yesterday, after the Padres loaded the bases and the Cubs threw the two consecutive wild pitches and the score was 5-0 in the 6th, we left. Although prepared with long underwear, layers, down jackets, etc., when you're team is playing like that, you're COLD. We left after the Cubs meekly went out in the bottom of the inning. Good idea? I'd say so. Final was 9-0 Padres. However, somehow, I believe if it was sunny and 70, FinsUp99 wouldn't have given up those tix.

I never said they don't want to win, of course the players do. However, management has not made very strategic decisions to get there at least in my adult life. The Tribune organization has made being the "loveable losers" a highly marketable strategy. Not to mention if you read section 3 of the Tribune, the cubs coverage is usually optimistic and the get nationwide air time via WGN. The cubs merchandising and the value of the team are already very high relative to other teams in MLB. At that point it's a cost benefit analysis. Why invest more money when the upside may not be the great and may actually lower the over all margin.

My sincere thanks to the Cubs bullpen and coaching staff. ^

Now I need to nap before the Tiger game.

Similarly, as a Yankee fan in NY, it seems like Georgie boy is happier to put a HOF lineup out there every day and get 50m fans per game than put a team out there that can actually win the WS.

I think a bit of a reality check is in order. The Yankees win their division virtually every year. Any team that does that has a decent chance of being in the WS. The Cubs are lucky to make the playoffs once every 5 or 6 years.
