MK the restaurant

So before meeting up at Meier’s Tavern in Glenview with bseller and ElmhurstNick, I went to MK North for some dinner. After having a “many different restaurants can do this” meal at Boka earlier in the week, I wanted to make sure I chose dishes that the restaurant would nail, I was fortunate and MK served near perfect dishes.

Started with the Crab & Crab – grilled Alaskan king crab leg, Maine jonah crab cake, marinated cucumbers, ginger and chili aioli. Both crab items were some of the most succulent and flavor packed I’ve had. The marinated cucumbers with slivers of red onion and black beans did not really go with the crab items but was good none the less.

The entrée was the Lobster Club sandwich – Maine lobster on toasted brioche with cured tomatoes, hickory smoked bacon and leroy’s remoulade. In the way a club sandwich can be perfection, this was terrific. The sweetness of the brioche played off of the sweet lobster, with crunchy smoky bacon flavor coming into taste. Wow!

Had a side of the pommes frites with truffle cream (extra truffle cream sauce $2) Did not really taste the truffle influence but the cream was almost like a very garlicky mayo so of course it was quite tasty with the fries.

I was there for dinner but both are available at lunch.

There is an MK in the city of Chicago as well.

just read that MK North will close on February 20, 2005 and re-open on March 1 as A Milano Italian Grill. According to M.K. himself, the northern outpost had always done well on weekends but never did enough business during the week. The new chef will be David Connolly.
