10 Things to Do in Columbus Before You Die

(according to Citysearch)

1. Ohio Stadium
411 Woody Hayes Dr., Columbus, OH
It isn't fall in Columbus until 100,000 people dress in their finest scarlet and gray, start the day with a tailgate party, watch the Buckeyes play football, sing the fight song and yell the Ohio cheer until they're hoarse.

2.The Clarmont
684 S High St, Columbus, OH
Pretend you're a fatcat as you chow down on a filet, light up a good cigar and eavesdrop on local lawyers and politicians at this old-school steakhouse.

3. Topiary Garden
480 E Town St, Columbus, OH
Wear polka dots, pack a picnic lunch and make yourself a new character in this living Georges Seurat painting.

4. Mozart's Pastry Shoppe
2885 N High St, Columbus, OH
Stake out Arnold Schwarzenegger's favorite local Austrian bakery when the action hero/governor makes his annual pilgrimage to town for the fitness classic.

5. Blue Danube Restaurant
2439 N High St, Columbus, OH
After you've had your fill at the campus bars, fish those last few dollars out of your pocket and cram into a smoky booth with friends for a cheap post-midnight meal.

6. Schmidt's Restaurant und Sausage Haus
240 E Kossuth St, Columbus, OH
Polka until you're sore at September's Oktoberfest in German Village, then make your way here for bratwurst, cream puffs and stout beer.

7. North Market
59 Spruce St, Columbus, OH
Spend a late weekend morning taking in all the culinary smells of this gourmet market, eat lobster pasta and lavender ice cream, then take a fistful of blue delphinium stems home with you.

8.Oldfield's on High
2590 N High St, Columbus, OH
Shake off all your weekend indulgences with the HooDoo Soul Band's funk and soul-loving Sunday night crowd.

9.The Book Loft of German Village
631 S 3rd St, Columbus, OH
Wander the great labyrinth of the city's greatest bookstore until you are hopelessly lost, with only Walt Whitman poems and Winky the cat to keep you company.

10. 50 Lincoln Inn
50 E Lincoln St, Columbus, OH
Window-gaze at all the Short North galleries with someone special, settle into the Monet Room for some nighttime romance and wake up to a gourmet breakfast.

Some may not agree with Arnold's ideas, but I can second his love of Mozart's. One of the most incredible bakeries I've ever been!! I was in CMH a week ago for a meeting and arrived an hour early just to get a Napoleon fix. They even make marzipan tasty. The Austrian Peach is unreal. There are additional locations, but High St. (north of Campus) is the original.

Stumbled across this thread days before a CMH trip.

With all the hype I wanna check out Mozart's, too! However, I'm really skeptical about the marzipan thing. I've tried that stuff - as others were smacking their lips over it - and it was a No Go for me.

I lived in CMH for three years. I would say the thing to do in CMH before you die is to move.
I'm sure this will offend people but I couldn't take the dark dreary winters and hot humid summers. There are only a couple weeks of nice weather a year.

I wonder if we lived there at the same time I was there '93-'97. Lived there the year NU went to Rose Bowl. Got yelled at by neighbors for working in my garden instead of being inside watching OSU play football. Put up my NU flag instead.

I would add a visit to the Thurber museum.

And, for the truly brave at heart............

A stroll through the OSU campus in full UM regalia!!!

I'll be in CMH overnight on an MR... can someone point to all-night hangouts? 11:45pm-5:45am.

CMH is a midwestern, family-oriented city. Plus, local laws don't allow for all-night bars. Closing time usually around 1AM, 2AM?

You're probably out of luck...

This is quite unfortunate.

This time of year there's only one thing worth doing in Columbus and that's watch Ohio State lose --- but not to Michigan because that game's in Ann Arbor

I would put seeing the state capital on my list --
