CMH Major Upgrades

John Glenn International Airport has begun construction of a new terminal, rental car facility and hotel. Maybe they will finally get a lounge.

Why are they doing this?

CMH's rental car pickup is one of the best around and now I'll have to ride a @%@$ bus like so many other airports? There isn't an issue with garage capacity, is there? The flyer says the bus ride will be only 5 minutes. You know what's less than 5 minutes? Walking to the current rental car parking.

So do some minor work on the terminals or something, it's not like the O&D is going to have some sudden ridiculous increase and with the consolidation in the airline industry with many hubs being removed, it's not like CMH is likely to ever be someone's hub again. So why?

It'll still be a long way until the new terminal comes to fruition. In the meantime, there's room for a SkyClub just past TSA in C on the second floor. I'm happy as long as they keep the service adds coming.

The rental car facility will eventually be connected to the new terminal.

The current terminal is almost tapped out on gate space for expansion. A1 (which was rumored to be getting a jetway again), C46, and C48 are the only gates which nobody has laid claim to with AS starting service last month.

There used to be more gates on B in the America West days. There's plenty of room there for more jetways and more gates.

I think the baggage sorting facilities they put in in the late 2000s/early 2010s took away a few gates. There used to be a triple at B16/18/20, but it looks like much of that ramp space was taken up by that.

Hope this question is not too off topic, but how would one suggest spending a 4 hour layover in CMH?

Easton is close. It is one of the best shopping areas anywhere. Lots of dining and drinking options, too. Check out their website.
