Geez, that video is amazing. Probably a hundred people could have died at a busy time; that whole area is shoulder-to-shoulder sometimes, and the train covered almost the entire up-escalator and steps.

Saying "derailment" is a misnomer. This was a full crash.

Yeah, we need a stronger word. More like running-out-of-railment. Wasn't the first time for the L, tho.

I must've gone up and down those escalators 200, maybe 300 times. Actually I usually used the stairs; even going up, it's faster than being stuck behind someone. Which would've been worse; the train looks like it went almost perfectly between the escalators and right up the stairs.

Maybe they should install a runaway train ramp.

At the bus/shuttle center, of course.
Just go down to the same corridor you would go to get to the train station, but instead of going to the train station, go to one of the two elevator centers that have this sign painted on the wall. Then take an elevator up one floor.

Thanks. The sign looks familiar now that you posted it, but as I've always taken a car or L to the airport, I've never had to deal with a bus or shuttle. Sounds like they're hoping to have the station reopened sometime this weekend, so hopefully things will be back to (somewhat) normal by Monday.

You think it might be weeks? I'd guess the Blue Line will be up and running to ORD by next Monday morning, if not before.

Good guess. Damaged train cars were cut up and removed yesterday, cleanup/repairs to be done and station reopened sometime over the weekend per Trib

The Blue Line driver who caused this crash by falling asleep has admitted also to falling asleep Feb. 1.

She has been on the job 2 months. Wonder how many more cracks she'll get at it.

I'm not quite sure how they can disagree on this...but, what can one expect from a union chief:

CTA spokesman Brian Steele disputed Kelly's claim about the operator's hours, saying she had worked 55 hours in the seven days preceding the incident

Heard on the radio today that the union is going to fight for the "driver" to keep her job.

Of course.

They actually did a pretty good job of cleaning up the station, very little visible damage if you didn't know what to look for:

I see they have even installed a "train catcher" at the end of the middle platform. I hope there is a huge "No trains on the escalator" sign on the inside. :D

Looks like that didn't quite work: http://cnn.it/1dY9yG8

"The driver of a train that jumped the tracks last month at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport -- after having reportedly "dozed off" -- has been fired, a transit authority spokeswoman said Friday."
