April, according to the Chicago Architecture Foundation website. Similar tours produced by for-profit tour companies may follow different schedules.

Lou Malnati's

I've seen a couple of recs for a good Chicago style pizza floating around here - Uno and Due, as well as Gino's East, are very "OK" - and generally are more touristed. Lou Malnati's is by far the favorite of locals - give it a shot and report back!

Agreed that Uno and Due are mediocre at best, but let's just say my best friend came to visit me once in Chicago in about 1998, and he still talks about how much he loves Gino's East. So I stand by my recommendation.

Malnati's however is another solid choice, as is Giordano's. I also like Tedino's, but that's all the way in Edgewater Beach on the far North Side and well out of the OP's geographic radius.

It's funny - I have a couple of friends from out of town who swear by Gino's East as well. I just don't get it. I think GE is far superior to the "best" pizza that many other cities offer - but I don't place it at the top as far as Chicago pizzerias go.

I actually enjoy Giordano's too - although many of my Chicago friends don't love it as much. I always say - if there's a way to get Giordano's cheese on Malnati's crust, we'd be all set.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I finally booked a room at the Sofitel Hotel in downtown. Got a great rate on it.

Do you have any breakfast spots worth trying in the downtown area?

Check out Bongo Room in South Loop. Otherwise Yolk is good (one on Wells in River North and one on S Michigan Ave, also in South Loop).
