On this board, Midwest was accused of being dishonest for not announcing cutbacks right away, but will AirTran face the same criticism?

I thought MKE - PHX for FL was one of the few routes not seasonal.

MKE-PHX was started 12/20/2007 and was offered for sale as a year-round market, but then was changed to only run in the winter/spring season.

Several weeks ago it was restored to the schedule to beging again in December 2008 for the winter/spring season. Considering that winter/spring is the peak season, and no longer shows operating then, it seems to be a true cut and not a seasonal reduction. If they're not going to fly it in February, they're not going to fly it in, say, June.

It was originally announced as part of a "seasonal" expansion from Milwaukee. It looks like AirTran frequently announces routes as "seasonal" as a CYA move so that when they have to pull back, they're not accused of misleading customers. Internally, I bet they tried to make it year-round, but couldn't. Of course, no one knows for sure.

After reading all these posts about AirTran Airways dropping MKE-PHX I went to their website and checked it out and noticed that it is available for purchase and I plugged in the dates of 12/20 - 12/25 and found a nonstop flight available for purchase so what is up here? Is the flight available seasonally, or being outright canceled? One other note I noticed on the press release which had to have been a big error was 1.6 flights to Las Vegas? How how flight a .6 flight to Las Vegas, big error.

Good catch! It looks they left the flight in place for holiday traffic...the nonstop remains for December 18th through January 5th. It is not available for sale after that, including anytime in February or March, the time one would expect it to be back for the spring break peak.

Actually that's how airlines often depict their number of flights when some operate less than daily. One MKE-LAS flight is 7 days per week, and the second MKE-LAS flight does not operate Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday. So MKE-LAS is 11 flights per week, 11 / 7 = 1.5714 flights per week, rounded to 1.6.

I was just messing around on the Midwest Airlines website and was plugging in various dates and locations and was wondering if anyone thought it would be a good idea to do a major overhaul to the Midwest Airlines website. I mean it seems alright now but with all these changes is it worth it? Any thoughts, ideas?

I have no complaints with the YX website. It's well-organized, not very cluttered and is pretty easy to use. Do you have some problems that need to be addressed?

My main technological beef with YX is that discount vouchers can't be done online. You have to turn those in in-person for them to take effect.

I suspect we might see some changes when the 717s are converted to the
40/59 configuration. The original plan was to market the Signature seats at time of purchase.

I have also found the site to be cluttered now that Midwest is marketing NWA flights. If I want to book a flight on NWA I'll go to the NWA website. Of course, when you slash capacity by 40% you have to offer people something other than one flight per day that is way overpriced.

Remember how the 7/23 AirTran press release of Milwaukee expansion to backfill Midwest cuts had a grid of all their MKE flights? And how it seemed odd that Phoneix was not in the grid even thought they had been selling MKE-PHX nonstops effective in December for a couple of weeks?

Well, MKE-PHX was pulled from the FL schedule early this morning. They must have known it was going to be cut back on or before 7/23. Took them until this morning to load the new schedule showing it pulled.

MKE-PHX will still have 4x/day, two each from Midwest and USAirways.

I am confused...is Phx on Midwest schedules or are they pulling that market? or making that seasonal- I am originally from phx and use my mastercard for the miles- (OT) looks like it is time to find a better rewards card- any suggestions also ( I like AE but the grocery store doesnt)

Midwest will continue to serve PHX from MKE with two daily nonstops, year-round, according to current info.

Will it really be nonstop? PHX is really at the limitations of the 717. A solid headwind may involve a stop at MCI. I've had to stop on a MD-80 with unfavorable conditions.

The 717 can fly MKE-PHX non-stop on a regularly scheduled basis. In fact, Midwest flew the PHX route with both the MD80 and 717 this past winter. There may be some days when a fuel stop may be necessary, but that shouldn't happen too often.
