MCT in TLV
Hi
I'm looking at taking a domestic flight from Eilat to TLV to connect to an international flight out of Israel.
The best option seems to be Akria. I see that they fly to TLV and SDV. Using KVS it appears that the minimum connect time even when flying to TLV and not SDV is 240mins between Akria and any international flight.
Can anybody confirm this, or tell me otherwise? 240 mins is alot of time! You can practically drive from Eilat to TLV in that time...
Thanks for your advice

There are two airlines that fly from Eilat to TLV and SDV: Arkia and Israir. If you are connecting to a flight out of the country you should fly to TLV. Sde Dov airport is at the north end of Tel-Aviv and it will take you around an hour to get to TLV from there, either by taxi or a taxi to the University train station and a train to the airport.
Either way you should arrive at TLV three hours prior to your departure.

240m sounds like a lot, but I still wouldn't leave it anything shorter than 180 minutes to allow you to get from T1 which is where the domestic flight arrive into, to T3 which is where the international flight leave from (unless you are continuing on one of the low cost airlines like EasyJet or UP etc) and to go past security.

I believe you misunderstood the OP's post. He/she spoke about Minimum connecting times.

Wait for luggage.
Wait for shuttle bus.
Wait on line for security.
Wait on line for Check in.
Wait on line for second security.
Wait on line for Passport control.
Walk to gate.

Thanks everybody. This is consistent with what I just found on the lonelyplanet forums also.
But wow, four hours is still alot. Typical MCT between terminals from domestic to international is 60-90 minutes at many larger airports. Sure, security issues in Israel require more time for screening, but it would be significantly reduced if it was possible to move within the secure zone between the international and domestic terminals.

You should rearrange your itinerary so that you end your vacation in Tel-Aviv or Jerusalem, not Eilat. With 2 kids and a baby, the last thing you need is to worry about is missing your international flight. Why are you going to Eilat anyway? What time of the year will you be in Israel? I suggest that you post your entire itinerary.

Arriving April 30 in TLV
May 2-3 in Jerusalem
May 4 Ein Gedi
May 5 Masada + dead sea
May 6 go to Eilat
May 9 fly out of TLV
May 2-5 is with a driver and tour guide, the rest is just us spending time in Eilat and Tel Aviv. Looking at taking the bus from dead sea to Eilat.
I guess we could go from TLV directly to Jerusalem and start our tour there and do Tel Aviv at the end, but I wanted to have a couple of relaxed days at the start rather than jumping straight into the tours.
Thanks for your advice.

- Where will you be on May 1?
- Eilat is a beach resort. It takes over 5 hours to get down there by bus from Tel-Aviv or Jerusalem. There is little to do there, especially if you are not interested in water sports. If you just want to hang out on a beach, you can do so in Tel-Aviv or any other town on the Mediterranean coast.
- Are you planning to go to Eilat from Massada by bus? With 2 kids, a baby and all your luggage ????? Are you aware of what is involved? The bus makes only one stop .....
- why have you chosen Eilat instead of the Galilee ???

Tel Aviv
Yes, I've been to Eilat before. We decided to go to eilat because of some things we thought would be fun for the kids: Kibbutz Yotvata, Underwater Observatory, Dolphins...
Yes, the bus looks modern enough and the alternative is paying $450 for a car and driver that I thought wasnt worth it. We're pretty hardy travelers and have traveled India, Vietnam, Tanzania, Kenya and many other places so it doesnt faze me.
It was recommended to me. Also I believe the water in Eilat is a bit warmer.
Maybe an option is to rent a car in Eilat and drive to Tel Aviv.
We could stop at the Ramon Crater and Alpaca Farm, spend the night there, and continue the next day directly to TLV airport...

240 minutes is for is T1-T3 at TLV.
It looks like this:
I believe this means 240 minutes from T1 domestic to T3 international.
I assume SDV to TLV is shown at 180 because it does not include transit time so it is the same 3 hours as anybody should plan when flying out of TLV. (Not sure what MCT really means in the context of coming from another airport but anyway that's what I get.)
We see the exceptions for IZ (Arkia) but not for 6H (Israir) because Israir does not fly to TLV, only to SDV.
It looks like this:
Code:
DD DI ID II
STANDARD: TLV 020 090 090 090
EXCEPTIONS:
A/L TR DEPARR
-ALL- TLV --- --- 240 ---
IZ SDV
-ALL- 3 --- --- 180 ---
IZ 1
IZ 1 --- 240 --- ---
-ALL- 3
INTER-AIRPORT: SDV TO TLV --- 180 --- 180
TLV TO SDV --- --- 150 150
---------------------------------------------------------------
[DD] Domestic To Domestic [DEP] Departure Airport
[DI] Domestic To Intl [ARR] Arrival Airport
[ID] Intl To Domestic [A/L] Airline
[II] Intl To Intl [TR] Terminal
