New Year's is different--they have a First Night celebration that's alcohol-free: http://www.firstnightpgh.org

Gateway Clipper DJ Dance Party: http://www.gatewayclipper.com/cruise_detail.asp

Those are the only events I can remember right now.

Maybe try the southside? (It's the "neighborhood" upriver from Station Square) There are tons of bars there.

The South Side can get pretty crazy on a regular night. I can only imagine how crazy it is on New Year's!

Are you looking for a wild bar, or a fairly calm bar? A good bar for wings is Fat Heads. They also usually have several good microbrews on tap. There's also Piper's Pub nearby.

Station Square might be an idea, too....a few bar selections there and I think they'll have a band playing in the street.

Piper's Pub or Fat Heads are probably your best options, if you want to be on the South Side.

Station Square would probably be calmer than the bars on the South Side. There are also a few bars in South Side Works.

It is a bit delayed but I wanted to get back to everyone who helped me out with what we ended up doing. After having a bit of a mellow December 30th topped off with a Penguins game at the Igloo we had a great New Year's Eve. The weather was a bit snowy but we walked around the Strip District during the day before heading to Homestead to watch a movie and get ready for the evening. After the movie we went to the Melting Pot located in Station Square. They had a special deal for New Year's which included a meal for two, a $50 "dip card" good at this location and a champagne toast all for $150. After stuffing ourselves on chocolate, cheese and fondue we went to our hotel at the Sheraton Station Square where we had a partial view of the New Year's fireworks from Pittsburgh's First Night. Overall, a great trip to one of my favorite cities! Thanks everyone.

Out of curiosity, is the Soldier's & Sailor's Museum worth making a special effort to see?
