Baseball on the Mall

We are taking a school trip to DC. Would we get in trouble if we play a game of catch on the mall?

There won't be a problem so long as you are not in an area reserved for one of the many festivals/exhibitions on the Mall. In fact, there are eight or nine baseball diamonds arranged around the Washington Monument, although they are reserved for league play at certain times of the day.

I think most all of it is Softball. Never seen baseball on the mall, but there are a lot of diamonds in a lot of places.

I've seen tons of soccer games being played on the mall. If you are truly just talking about a game of catch, I don't see how it would be a problem if you were there, too (assuming you really mean on the mall and not at the softball fields near the Washington Monument). That said, I've seen those soccer games start at noon (but just a couple so they aren't taking up the entire length). The later you get there, the more competion you have to find space.

Is it possible to play on the diamonds if they are not in use?

I do not see why one could not play. they are heavily used starting around 5pm. slo pitch softball with mixed teams. usually from a single office or company.

There used to be about 50 diamonds, but the current administration shut most down for security reasons. ?????

If you google 20003, use the satalite image and look around the Lincoln Memorial. I thought there still to be a couple of diamonds on 16th st near the washington monument, but they do not show

I play in a softball league that plays on diamonds on the mall. There are several in west potomac park by the jefferson memorial and often we set up bases in the area to the north and west of the washington memorial. Some areas can only be reserved by being physically present on the field until the games start ~6pm. You'll see people there from noon on. You shouldn't have a problem and you sure can't beat the setting.
