Inauguration Day Traffic

If you are foolish enough to come to Washington for the inauguration (not a political comment, rather a comment on the traffic mess you will be getting yourself into), here are the myriad of traffic restrictions that run from January 18 to the 23rd.

https://mpdc.dc.gov/release/2017-pre...rtation-plan-0

A special non-traffic note: DC has very strict gun laws. Open carry is not permitted. Concealed carry MUST be with a D.C. Permit, no reciprocity with any other jurisdictions. In addition, there are Federal restrictions. No guns on the mall, in Federal buildings, or near any Inaugural activities. Basically, leave your guns at home. Oh, and don't bring those signs celebrating or decrying the event on sticks, either. The signs are ok, the sticks aren't. Basically, if law enforcement can conceive of it being used as a weapon, they're going to take it away from you.

Stay safe and sane out there.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this q but--I live on Capitol Hill, not in the closure zones, and I land at BWI late Thursday night. I'm wondering if I should try to get on an earlier flight. Normally, I uber home from BWI, but I don't know when they plan to start surge pricing for the inauguration (and cursory googling hasn't found the answer). Am I in for a cluster? I have some flexibility and can do a free same day change.

On the plus side, Metro will start running earlier than usual, if it decides to not break down.

If you can get back before the Green/Yellow closes for the night, do it and take the shuttle to Greenbelt. Anticipate cluster.

I'm actually getting out of town early Friday morning, so I'm hoping the blue to DCA won't be too bad. But again, anticipating cluster.

Just adding to my initial post, a restriction that might not be intuitive, especially on a rainy day. No Umbrellas near the Capitol, the Mall, or the parade route.

WASHINGTON (ABC7) With rain istill in the forecast for Inauguration Day the National Park Service decided to make a change to their "no umbrella policy."

'Totes' style umbrellas that collapse will be allowed on the parade route and the National Mall for the day, but "long, non-collapsible umbrellas" will still be prohibited.

Thanks. I heard that and was going to add it, but now I don't have to!

Washington [any flight disruptions due to President's inauguration?]

Out of pure interest (Quiet day at work!) and wishing to avoid any stir or even mention of political conversations please. But does anyone know if it's business as usual for BA/AA to IAD today?

As I read there's a no fly zone in place over parts of Washington due to the inauguration, does this limit the airports schedule...I wonder what the loads are like on the BA flights on this particular occasion...

No-fly zones won't apply to regular scheduled flights.

However if any of those incoming flights have any issues (transponder/comms) they will have the USAF all over them and will be escorted well clear of the resltricted area.

I read if it's a windy day there will be a minimum height restriction put in place as they fear Trumps coiffure could become a hazard to low flying aircraft.

^ I believe the hair spray prevents this from interfering with low flying aircraft in windy conditions and is also waterproof!
