handicapped tsa at iad

i had heard there was a tsa inspection station at IAD for handicapped. i cannot find any documentation. i am suitably handicapped, but want to use that facility so i can get my CPAP device inspected and approved hassle free. the main TSA group of <redacted> do not know what the thing is. last go round, they tried to send me back to the front checkin, and check the thing and put it into the checked luggage.

is there a handicapped checkin, and if so, where is it?

TSA does not deal with checkin.

TSA deals with screening.

1. Get your boarding pass.
2. Go to TSA checkpoint screening.
3. Give your board pass and ID to the "<redacted>" checking tickets to have your ID and BP approved
4. Proceed to tables for removing your items for xray.
5. Remove your CPAP from your carry-on.
6. Remove your CPAP from its carrying case.
7. Remove your shoes, liquids, laptop and place in bins.
8. Push your items into the xray.
9. Tell a "<redacted>" your preference for a pat-down or the AIT.

I do question whether TSA "<redacted>" in 2015 do not know what a CPAP is.

I've taken my CPAP through security at Dulles countless times with never a problem. With Pre-Check, I usually ask if they want me to take the machine out of its case, but they usually say no. I've never had any confusion about what a CPAP is nor any question about it being approved to bring through as a carry-on item.

There is no special place for screening those with disabilities. However, in some case they direct you to the side where an agent checks you over.

Maybe too long ago, but I'm pretty sure it existed. From where the current pre-check entry point is, go further down (i.e., away from the United check-in area). I thought it was a handicapped and Dulles employee security station.

Your location detail is correct. It is on the ticketing/departure level, behind the District Chophouse. Note that it is primarily for handicap (i.e. wheelchair/crutches) passengers and their accompanying party. As others have stated, the regular TSA checkpoints should deal with CPAP issues without a problem.

As noted in the quote it also serves as an employee checkpoint - but ONLY when the main TSA employee checkpoint in the baggage area is closed overnight.

CPAP users don't need handicapped treatment at the checkpoint. They simply report the item, have it open for inspection, it's inspected and they move on.

The separate Pre-Check area at IAD also has space to handle wheelchairs.
