IAD/Smithsonian Question

For the plane nerds who have gone to the Smithsonian Air & Space at Dulles is it connected to the terminal in any way?

Is it easily accessible if I have no car? (Train, Shuttle, Walk, Etc?)

It's not at all connected. They might have a shuttle but we've only gone via our own car....

Yes, looks like public transport from the airport will get you there http://airandspace.si.edu/visit/udva...directions.cfm

No, it is not connected. It is a shortish (free) shuttle bus ride.

I did not see anything on the Udvar Hazy website about a free shuttle. Do you have more details?

Not certain how this is DL-specific?

Probably best suited for discussion in the Washington DC forum.

The free shuttle is long gone. However, you can take a public bus.

https://airandspace.si.edu/visit/mal...-locations.cfm
From that page:
From Washington Dulles International Airport to the Udvar-Hazy Center in VA:
•From Ground Transportation, take Fairfax Connector No. 983 one stop to Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
And here's the link to information on the route. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/routes/983.htm

There is no free shuttle. Used to be one from Air Space on the Mall, but that was discontinued a few years ago.

The museum itself is in the extreme SE corner of the airport, with access to the airport proper for planes but not people.

You could taxi there in less than ten minutes.

Here is the schedule for the Fairfax Connector route #983 - http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connect...hedule/983.pdf

Notes:
1. Bus runs every 20 minutes, so don't worry too much about the schedule.
2. Bus leaves IAD at Ground Transportation curb location 2E.
3. Fare is $1.75 using cash or SmarTrip farecard. Cash fare must be exact - no change is made on the bus.

Cool idea for a medium/long layover (during business hours) at IAD. In fact, very meta. Waiting to fly and learning about flying.

+1
