Two right by Chinatown: Daikaya has gotten great reviews lately, and if it's too crowded, go a few blocks north to Kushi (which is also next door to a Korean place).

I read through this and can't believe Little Serow wasn't on the list. For a fixed $45 you get a 7-course Thai meal of incredible taste. Check out the weekly menu. Such a great place.

True, you have to be able to get there right at opening or near closing if you don't want to wait... but I mean long wait times and no reservations are usually the sign of a good restaurant that's trying to serve everyone it can, IMO... if you don't want to or can't wait, fair enough

Yes, I was just there last week. I recommend this place quite highly. My brother and I agreed that the calamari appetizer was the best we've ever had.

Ping Pong Dim Sum (in Chinatown and Dupont Circle) is a London import with good, if hip and modernized, dim sum. Great exotic flavors on their drink menu.
