IAD Shuttle Question

Hi all,

Quick question, does IAD have a common Car Rental Shuttle like BWI? If it's the latter, do you know the hours of operation?

Getting in on a late flight/long layover trying to weigh whether I should get a Shuttle (my hotel will not operate this late) or Car Rental (preferred since I get free hotel parking).

Thanks again.

Dulles Marriott is actually on IAD property and provides complimentary shuttle or you can take a cab ($10). Even if you take a cab in both directions, you will spend a whole lot less than renting a car.

Dulles does not have a common car-rental shuttle program. Each program (and some common-ownership pairs of programs) operates its own shuttle.

Where/what is the hotel you are heading for? The cost of taxi/shuttle vs rental car should be how you decide which is better decision from cost perspective.

Thank you all for your help, I had called earlier to confirm as well.

For future reference:

Only a couple of the major car rentals are open and provide shuttle service 24/hrs (e.g. Avis/National/Alamo).

I didn't try the Marriott as someone had mentioned, but only the Crowne Plaza, of all the hotels I did call (Sheraton, Westin, Hyatt) offered an on-call shuttle pick up after 1230a.

I ended up getting a good rate at the Hyatt Dulles through Priceline ($48). Ended up getting a rental car as it was the same cost as a shuttle for the two of us ($29), the Hyatt had free parking, and I figured it would be easier in the morning rather than waiting for the hotel shuttle.

I'll probably end up searching this as well, but worth asking:

Does Dulles have a separate International terminal? Just trying to gauge when I should leave in the morning for an 820a international flight, I imagine the standard 2 hours before departure time?

No real separate intl terminal at Dullus. If you are on United you will fly out of C/D concourses. Most of the other international carriers operate out of A/B, but as always check the monitors to be sure.

Nice price ... 2 hours is more than generous - a good idea with the rental car return if you're unsure of the area, have bags to check, etc. Security lines can sometimes backup from the morning when TSA is short staffed but that varies by day.

Thank you! The girlfriend thinks its a waste to "go through all that trouble" for a 4-6 hours, perhaps I should just leave her at the airport? lol.

Keep in mind the rental car lots are neither near the terminal nor the Hyatt. Add 30mins to your travel time each way including waiting time for the rental car shuttle. Arriving at an unfamiliar airport late at night, would you rather jump in a cab and go straight to the hotel, or make this trek to the rental car lot then drive to the hotel in the dark? http://g.co/maps/9cf39

For the return just pre-arrange a cab to take you back to the airport. With a rental car, you might have to stop to put a few drops of gas in the tank, I've been penalized for not having a gas receipt upon return even though the tank was still full.

Thanks for posting the map, that route just doesn't make any sense and I'm close enough where the cab price is almost the same. Cancelled my rental reservation.
