All fine and dandy except for two things: the OP is on a domestic red-eye from LAX and then onto RDU. Therefore no LH lounge access as he has no international itinerary. Secondly, if he did the LH lounge doesn't open until 8.20am, well after the arrival of the overnight west coast flights.

If you're a 1P or 1K, you don't need an international itinerary to get into the LH lounge. True dat.

Thanks - I stand corrected. Went by there this morning and the LH lounge is now open 8:20am-8:15pm 7 days a week. Their morning hours are primarily to accommodate ANA *G passengers, but anyone who could otherwise access it is welcome there just shy of 12 hours a day.

I have some related questions. I'm scheduled to fly in to IAD from NRT on NH in C (possibly F, depending on whether my upgrade goes through) with a three hour connection to RIC in Y (single-class aircraft). I was hoping to get a shower at the LH lounge on the B concourse, though my flight (on AX) is likely to depart from the A concourse (I've seen A1 as a gate used in the past...).

1a. How difficult is it to get from midfield C&I back to the B concourse lounges?
1b. Would it make more sense to go through the main C&I and return to the B concourse instead?
2. Would I have access to the UA IFL if I was arriving in international F?
3. What's the easiest way to get from the LH lounge to the A gates? I know it's a long walk, but it's been a while since I've been at IAD and I'm not sure if the AeroTrain has made this easier.

When you come up from immigration head about 10 gates down to the train. You have to walk a long tunnel at the bottom of the escalators. Take the train the entire length (C->A->Main->B). The LH lounge is very close to the B train stop.

Not really. And if you have checked bags, you cannot.

I do not believe so; it is not an arrivals lounge.

You can take the train, but it will not be much faster. I leave the LH lounge every week for a flight usually at A1 and it takes 10 minutes walking briskly.

Thanks for the information. Turns out I'll be arriving in F. Would it be worth it asking for expedited processing through immigration (I'm aware that there's no priority given to F passengers) at this time of day (about 10:30 AM)?

Don't ask. Whether you arrive in F, or have a "tight connection", are a diplomat, or any other excuse, you get no special treatment.

It should be a fairly quiet time of the day for customs/immigration.

I've actually heard of NH staff guiding elite flyers in F through C&I at IAD in rare cases, hence my question. But if it's quiet I won't press the issue.

Diplomats and APEC business card-holders do get access to a shorter line on arrival into IAD.

There is no "special" line for Diplomats and APEC at IAD - not in IAB or in the mid-field facility. Diplomats and APEC card-holders are directed to the "Citizens" line rather than the "Non-Citizens" line. The "Citizens" line is typically shorter and moves faster than the "Non-Citizens" line.

By the way, a foreign Diplomatic passport needs to have a USA "A" or "G" diplomatic visa for this courtesy. i.e. A French diplomatic passport with a Russian diplomatic visa doesn�t qualify...
