MAD-MEX-LAX

We are flying MAD-MEX on IB and then connecting to a MX flight from MEX-LAX. Has anyone transferred from a Europe flight into MEX to a US bound flight? Any tips on the process or what to expect? We have 2 1/2 hours between flights which should work, but I'm concerned about visas, clearing Mexican immigration, airport lounge availability while in transit, departure fee, etc.

Thanks.

Departure fees are normally included in your ticket. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary - you'll have to clear Mexican immigration, but not customs if your bags are checked through. There is an MX counter airside from which you should be able to get your boarding pass for your flight to LAX. Assuming you're an EU citizen, no visas of any kind necessary for Mexico. For the US, you'll need an electronic travel permit. There are plenty of lounges in the terminal.
